Good fictional story, extremely well filmed with beautiful scenes of the Alps and its' fauna. Makes for a very enjoyable and relaxed viewing. It must be said that no wolf was forced against it's nature to act in this film. The 'she wolf' is actually a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog named "Heiden du Domaine de la Combe Noir" and they are her own puppies. The other 'wolves' are in reality dogs from the same, world champion, breeder.

I love the story, the magnificent scenes, the trials faced by the she wolf and her will to secure a future pack.

I watched this movie and at first, I was quite blown away by the visual representation. It was presented as a "documentary" and aired on a TV program which usually airs documentary productions and... It was not immediately clear to me it was really a movie.

It would not be exceptional (but yes, not a great thing either) from a documentary to humanize (a la Disney, as another reviewer says), but this wonderful animal movie kinda tries to pass itself as a documentary in a number of ways (technique, mixing of real facts in the story). It is a pro wolf story: yes - but one which uses Czechoslovakian wolf dogs to interpret Italian wolves and creates a fascinating, but fake story. It is interesting, it will make you feel enthusiastic about the wolf family, hope for them and feel for them.

Yet, it is ... fake in a way.

This film relentlessly anthropomorphizing the wolves depicted. Such nonsense is counterproductive in educating people to treasure, respect and maintain the environment and habitat of wild animals.

Let Disney do that with Lion King and Bambi which at least most people recognize as fiction. Don't do it with something being purveyed as a documentary. It is not helpful.
