Gumnaam (1965)
G-O-O-D
A Flawed Yet Entertaining Effort To Make A Compelling Musical Thriller.... "Gumnaam" Surprisingly Comes Out As A Fine Whodunit From The 1960s, The Time When Only B. R. Chopra Used To Make Superb Suspenseful Films While Other Filmmakers Failed To Crack This Genre... Manoj Kumar Is Known For His Patriotic Films, But The Guy Truly Has Done Great Stuff Outside Those Movies... Nanda Wasn't New To This Genre & She Even Did A Better One After This - Yash Chopra's Ittefaq (1969)... On The Whole, An Enjoyable Thriller Which Starts Off Well Falters In Between Due To Some Illogical Happenings, But The Totally Unexpected Climax Covers Up The Shortcomings.
Captain Miller (2024)
E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T
Captain Miller (2024) - 100%
Technical Finesse Blended With Hardcore Action Elements, That's "Captain Miller" For You... Many Films Have Been Made On Freedom Struggle In The Past, But They Are More On Preachy Side, But That's Not The Case Here As This One Takes A Completely Different Route To Give You An Experience Like Never Before... Dhanush's Performance Is No Short Of Extraordinary... He Becomes The Character He Plays & Gives His 200%... Priyanka Arul Mohan Too Has Shown That She Can Easily Slay An Role With Absolute Ease... G. V. Prakash's Background Score Is Of International Standards & Not For A Second It Fails To Give You Goosebumps & More Goosebumps... Director Arun Matheswaran Is Here To Stay & Deliver Cinematic Feasts Like These.
Veer-Zaara (2004)
B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L
Veer-Zaara (2004) - 100%
A Deeply Emotional Love Saga From Yash Chopra With Shah Rukh Khan & Preity Zinta Being It's Body & Soul... "Veer-Zaara" If You Ask Me, Is One Of The Top Five To Six Romantic Films Ever Made... It Has Passion, Drama, Tragedy & Above All A Great Message Of Peace & Brotherhood Without Getting Involved In Politics Even For Once... Truly, The Days Of Heart Touching Stories Are Far Behind & Movies Like These Can't Be Made Anymore... Apart From The Film's Premise, One Thing Which Stands Out Is It's Soundtrack... Madan Mohan's Unused Tunes Recorded Sometimes In The 1960s Or 1970s Were Used To Compose Evergreen Hits Like "Do Pal", "Main Yahan Hoon Yahan", "Tere Liye" & "Kyun Hawa"... This Shows That Music Directors From The Past Were Truly Ahead Of Times & That's One Major Reason, Why We Continue To Enjoy Melodies Of Good Old Days Even Today.
Anjaana Anjaani (2010)
H-E-A-R-T-W-A-R-M-I-N-G
Anjaana Anjaani (2010) - 100%
All The Greatest Love Stories Are Between Strangers... The Tagline Of "Anjaana Anjaani" Is Not Only Written, But Also Portrayed By Siddharth Anand In Each & Every Frame... There Are Very Few Movies Which Have The Power To Affect Your Life... This Is One Such Film... If You Ever Think Of Ending Your Life Because Of Some Problem, Please Watch This Movie Once... I Am Sure It'll Change The Way You See This World... Vishal-Shekhar Have Given Their All Time Greatest Album... The Songs Have A Really Calming Effect On Your Mind, Be It "Aas Paas Khuda", "Tumse Hi Tumse" Or "Tujhe Bhula Diya"... Ranbir Kapoor's Script Choice Has Been Truly Great From The Beginning Of His Career & I Am Glad That He Chose This Gorgeous Film Which's My All Time Favorite... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Neel Kamal (1968)
D-I-S-A-P-P-O-I-N-T-I-N-G
Neel Kamal (1968) - 30%
One Of Those Blockbusters From The Golden Era Which Didn't Aged Well... I Think "Neel Kamal" May Have Become Successful Owing To It's Beautiful Soundtrack Otherwise It Truly Is A Heavily Flawed Attempt From Filmmaker Ram Maheshwari To Create A Romance Film Based On Reincarnation Like Mahal, Madhumati Or Milan... Inspite Of Having Supremely Talented Stars Like Waheeda Rehman, Manoj Kumar, Raaj Kumar & Balraj Sahni, The Film Fails To Grip Or Engage You After Initial 30 Minutes & By The Time Climax Arrives, You Are Left With Nothing, But Guilt Of Wasting Precious Three Hours Of Your Life.
Vettaiyan (2024)
HARD-HITTING
Vettaiyan (2024) - 100%
T. J. Gnanavel Does It Again, But This Time With A Lot Of Style... "Vettaiyan" Is A Perfect Example Of How Intellectual Cinema Can Be Presented With Commercial Ingredients Incorporated So That It Reaches A Large Number Of People... Rajinikanth Has Delivered A Whistleworthy Act... It Really Takes Guts For A Superstar To Select A Film Like This After Jailer... Fahadh Faasil Once Again Proved To Be The Show-Stealer... He's Truly In The Best Phase Of His Career... Amitabh Bachchan Dominates Each & Every Frame He Is In & Ritika Singh, What A Performer & Fighter... On The Whole, Films Like These Aren't Made Everyday & With Such An Engaging & Bold Screenplay, No Chance... So Please Book Your Tickets & Catch It As Soon As Possible.

Vaaranam Aayiram (2008) - 100%
If Someone Asks Me To Watch One Film Of Suriya To Know What Kind Of An Actor He Is? I'll Ask Him To Watch Gautham Vasudev Menon's "Vaaranam Aayiram"... Its A Great Example Of How Simple Human Stories Can Be Turned Into Impactful & Inspiring Movies... The Bond Which A Son Shares With His Father Is Not Just Of A Parent & A Child, But That Of A Friend, Mentor & Motivator... This Is One Such Tale Which's Relatable To Each & Every Person... After Finishing The Movie, I Had Only One Wish - Harris Jayaraj Please Make A Solid Comeback... This World Was A Better Place With Your Melodious & Comforting Music.
Viduthalai Part 1 (2023)
D-I-S-T-U-R-B-I-N-G
Viduthalai : Part 1 (2023) - 100%
The Most Brutal Film I Have Ever Seen... "Viduthalai : Part 1" Slaps You Hard & Asks A Simple Question... Are We Truly Indepenent With Equal Rights For All The Citizens? Hats Off To Vetrimaaran & Other Renowed Filmmakers Of Tamil Cinema For Constantly Making Films On Topics People Shy Away From... A Star Is Born In The Form Of Soori... Salute To This Amazing Actor For Not Just Playing, But Living The Character Of 'Kumaresan'... Vijay Sethupathi, Like Always Has Delivered An Amazing Performance... His Character Keeps You Interested Throughout The Film & Increases Your Anticipation For The Second Part... Overall, If You Are Weak-Hearted & Happy Listening To Feel-Good Speeches Of Politicians, Please Avoid The Film, But If You Truly Care For The Nation, Leave Everything & Watch It Right Now.
Alai Payuthey (2000)
D-E-L-I-G-H-T-F-U-L
Alaipayuthey (2000) - 100%
Mani Ratnam Delivers A Poignant Love Story With Absolutely Magical Composition From A. R. Rahman & A Thundering Debut By R. Madhavan... "Alaipayuthey" Truly Is A Film For The Youth Who Are More Practical Than Older Generation & Still Don't Understand True Meaning Of Love & Life... It Was Also Remade In Hindi As Saathiya & That Too Was A Superb Film, But This One Overpowers It In Terms Of Storytelling & Being More Grounded Than The Former... I Also Feel What Films Like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak & Maine Pyar Kiya Did For Hindi Cinema, This Movie Did The Same For Tamil Cinema As It Paved Way For The New-Gen Filmmakers (Gautham Vasudev Menon) & Musicians (Harris Jayaraj) To Come Up With More Such Heartfelt Stories & Melodious Music.
Mausam (2011)
D-I-S-A-P-P-O-I-N-T-I-N-G
Mausam (2011) - 30%
A Perfect Example Of How A Beautiful Story Can Be Ruined By A Boring Screenplay... Pankaj Kapur's "Mausam" Had Everything Which Could Have Made It Among The Top Romantic Films Of All Time, But Too Many Subplots, Weak Acting From Sonam Kapoor & Uninteresting/Unconvincing Premise Makes It A Dull Fare... Although The Soundtrack Is Fabulous & All The Songs Are Very Much Enjoyable, But They Can't Carry A Poor Film For Long & Eventually, Crash Landing Happens After Sometime... Shahid Kapoor, Supriya Pathak & Anupam Kher Perform Well & Save The Film From Being An Absolute Mess... Also The Film's Beautifully Shot With Several Eye-Catching Locations.
Aradhana (1969)
L-O-V-E-L-Y
Aradhana (1969) - 80%
Rajesh Khanna's Shot To Megastardom & The Beginning Of Kishore Kumar Era... Shakti Samanta's "Aradhana" Wasn't An Ordinary Film, But A Historic One Which Gave Us Talents That Changed Indian Cinema & Will Remain With Us Forever... Surely, The Movie's Not Without Its Share Of Flaws, But It's The Songs By S. D. Burman Which Overpowers All The Negatives & Makes It A Heartfelt Romantic Film... Sharmila Tagore & Farida Jalal Delivered Earnest Performances, But Got Overshadowed By Khanna Who Was At His Absolute Best In The Film... He Completely Fitted The Bill Of A True Blue Romantic Hero Who Acted With Absolute Ease, Was Excellent In Songs & Looked Charmingly Beautiful.
Peepli [Live] (2010)
B-R-A-V-E
Peepli Live (2010) - 70%
An Honest Attempt From Anusha Rizvi, Aamir Khan & Kiran Rao To Highlight The Plight Of Farmers In India... It's A Known Fact That 70% Population Of Our Country Is Dependent On Agriculture For Their Livelihood, But What Many Don't Know That We Are No.1 In Farmer Suicide As Well & This Film Boldly Puts It In Front Of Us, Thanks To Omkar Das Manikpuri, Raghubir Yadav & Nawazuddin Siddiqui... One Of The Biggest Plus Points Of The Movie Is Its Presentation Which Is Art Driven, But Also Commercial In Nature Which Makes It Reachable To More People... The Only Major Drawback Here Is The Screenplay Which Could Have Been Tighter... On The Whole, "Peepli Live" Is A Good Film That Is Offbeat, But Relatable & Definitely Deserves A Place In Your Watchlist.
Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015)
FLAWLESS
Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015) - 100%
A Brilliant Take On The Indian Sherlock Holmes... Dibakar Banerjee Who Is Known For Making The Much Loved Classics, Such As Khosla Ka Ghosla & Oye Lucky Lucky Oye! Proves That He Can Master Any Genre With Perfection... Sushant Singh Rajput Is The Perfect Casting For "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy" & Has Delivered One Of His Career-Best Performances... Anand Tiwari & Neeraj Kabi Too Are Great Additions... Another Person Who Deserves A Huge Round Of Applause Is The Art Director... The Recreation Of Calcutta Of The 1940s Is Truly Amazing... Also One Thing Which Movies Of Today, Especially Thrillers Don't Have Is The Repeat Value, But Here Too The Film Gets Full Marks As It Has Great Repeat Value & Can Be Watched Any Number Of Times, Inspite Of The Revelation Of Suspense... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Kaala Patthar (1979)
P-O-W-E-R-F-U-L
Kaala Patthar (1979) - 100%
The Greatest 'Angry Young Man' Character Ever Played By Amitabh Bachchan With Highly Energetic & Mischievous Shatrughan Sinha Going All Guns Blazing... "Kaala Patthar" Is One Of The Least Talked About Works Of Yash Chopra As Well As Salim-Javed, But If You Ask Me, It's Easily One Of Their Top 5 Scripts... Also The Film's Miles Ahead Of The Times It Was Made... The Unspoken Tension It Creates In Various Sequences & B/W Characters Was Not Common In Bollywood & Even Today It Isn't... It Was Also A Farewell From Typical Masala Entertainers & Can Be Called An Intense Action Film Which Instead Of Focusing On Popular Gimmicks Of A Multi-Starrer, Tried Something Different, Eventually Succeeding With Flying Colors.
Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971)
B-L-O-C-K-B-U-S-T-E-R
Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971) - 100%
First True-Blue Action Extravaganza To Come Out Of Hindi Cinema... "Mera Gaon Mera Desh" Has Dharmendra Written All Over It! The Film Not Only Reminds You Of His 'He-Man' Persona, But Also His Acting Chops... He At One Moment Can Play A Flamboyant Person & The Next Moment A Fearless Dacoit-Hunter With Absolute Ease... Raj Khosla's Vision & Direction Is Just Too Good... He Was One Of The Few Directors Who Exactly Knew The Pulse Of Audience & Hence Made A Number Of Historic Blockbusters Like C. I. D, Do Raaste & This One... Vinod Khanna Is A Total Surprise Package... The Ones Who Know Him For His Heroic Characters Gonna Be Spellbound To Watch Him Playing A Treacherous Bandit Much Like Gabbar Singh Of Sholay.

Kumbalangi Nights (2019) - 100%
How Many Times While Watching A Film, You Get So Spellbound By Visuals That You Pledge To Visit The Place Once In Your Lifetime... This Happened To Me First Time While I Was Watching This Absolutely Gorgeous Film "Kumbalangi Nights"... I Really Really Want To Know How Malayalam Cinema Keeps Making Such Films With A Shoestring Budget? Also How Actors In This Industry Everytime Give Such Amazing Performances? Soubin, Shane, Anna, Matthew, Sreenath, Fahadh All Have Given Their Aboslute Best... Sushin Shyam's Music, Especially Background Score Is Out Of The World... Many A Times You Feel That God Himself Is Playing A Tune.

Kalki 2898 AD (2024) - 100%
A Film Which Proves That Indian Cinema Is No Longer Inferior To Hollywood & Can Make Films As Good As Them... "Kalki 2898 AD" Is A True Blue Visual Spectacle From Tollywood, An Industry Which's Continuously Delivering Epic Blockbusters Like Baahubali, Baahubali 2, RRR Etc... Hats Off To Nag Ashwin For Taking His Time & Creating A Whole New World With Very Well Developed Characters... The Way He Has Utilised Amitabh Bachchan, OMG Watch It To Experience What I Am Saying... Kamal Haasan Too Deserves A Huge Round Of Applause For His Menacing Portrayal Of 'Supreme Yaskin'... Prabhas Like Always Has Succeeded In Entertaining The Audience... His Conversations With 'Bujji' Are Sure To Make You Laugh & His Appearance In The Climax Is Sure To Take Your Breath Away.
Dosti (1964)
C-L-A-S-S-I-C
Dosti (1964) - 100%
A Story Of Hope & Friendship Which Compels You To Become A Better Human Being... Rajshri Is Known For Making Small Budget, But High On Content Films Like Chitchor, Dulhan Wohi Jo Piya Man Bhaye & Nadiya Ke Paar... "Dosti" Too Comes In That List, But It's Superior Then The Above Mentioned Films In Terms Of Content, Music, As Well As The Message It Tries To Give... I Have To Say That Satyen Bose Was Truly A Master Director & Laxmikant-Pyarelal Were Best In Their Business & Mohammed Rafi, Oh My God What Can I Say About Him... He Was An Angel Sent From Heaven To Spread Peace With His Honey Like Sweet Voice... 1964 Was A Great One For Hindi Cinema With A Number Of Romantic Blockbusters Like Sangam, Ayee Milan Ki Bela & Kashmir Ki Kali, But This One Proved To Be A True Dark Horse & One Of The Biggest Hits Of The Year... Must Watch!
Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988)
D-E-L-I-G-H-T-F-U-L
Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) - 100%
A Highly Enjoyable Love Story Backed Up With Blockbuster Soundtrack & Excellent Performances By The Then Newcomers Aamir Khan & Juhi Chawla... "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak" Was A Landmark Film As It Brought Family Audience Back To Cinemas & Revived The Romantic Musical Genre Which Took A Backseat Post-Emergency (1975)... Mansoor Khan Made A Remarkable Directional Debut With This One & Continued The Legacy Of Nasir Hussain Who Made Some Great Musicals In His Prime Years Like Caravan, Yaadon Ki Baaraat & Hum Kisise Kum Nahin... I Would Suggest Every Cinema Lover To Watch This Film Atleast Once As It Takes You On A Roller-Coaster Ride Full Of Emotions, Drama & Sacrifice.
Student of the Year (2012)
C-R-I-N-G-E-F-E-S-T
Student of The Year (2012) - 30%
"Student Of The Year" - A Movie Which Is Set In India, But Seems To Be Inspired From Some American Or British Television Show... Karan Johar Whose First Two Films Were The Hugely Popular Blockbusters, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai & Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham Came Up With This Trash At The Peak Of His Career... Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra All Have Given Their Worst Performances In This One... They Are Good Actors No Doubt, But Their Acting In This One Seems Completely Fake & Superficial... Even A Veteran Actor Like Rishi Kapoor Is Wasted... Apart From Two Songs "Radha" & "Ishq Wala Love", This Film Offers Nothing & A Regular College Going Guy Wont Be Able To Connect To It.
Rockstar (2011)
H-E-A-R-T-B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G
Rockstar (2011) - 100%
One Of The Greatest Piece Of Arts To Come Out Of Indian Cinema... "Rockstar" Has Many Factors Going For It, But The Biggest One Is That It's Heart Is In The Right Place & For That I Would Like To Thank The Trio Of Imtiaz Ali, A. R. Rahman & Ranbir Kapoor... These Three Geniuses Came Together To Create Something Which I Don't Think Can Ever Be Made By Someone Else In The Future... Masterpiece Is The Most Loosely Used Word These Days, But If There's One Film That Truly Deserves That Tag, It's This One... Irshad Kamil Who Has Written Lyrics For The Film Needs Special Mention As Without His Contribution I Don't Think This Movie Would Have Become A Cult Classic... Its Songs, Such As "Jo Bhi Main", "Kun Faya Kun", "Sadda Haq" & "Nadaan Parindey" Are Magical & Take You To A Different World.
Jaal (1952)
L-E-T-H-A-R-G-I-C
Jaal (1952) - 40%
Guru Dutt's Weakest Work... "Jaal" When Released In 1952 Was A Major Hit, But Sadly, The Movie Hasn't Aged Well... It Opens On An Interesting Note, But Fizzles Out After 20 Minutes & Ends Abruptly With An Unsatisfactory Finale... Some Positive Points Are The Performances Of Dev Anand, Geeta Bali, Purnima & K. N. Singh, Cinematography, Dark Atmosphere & The Soulful Romantic Track - Yeh Raat Yeh Chandni Phir Kahan, Sung By Hemant Kumar... As An Ardent Admirer Of Anand & Dutt & A Person Who Absolutely Loves Baazi, Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool & Chaudhvin Ka Chand, I Won't Recommend This Film To Anyone... GIVE IT A MISS!
Maidaan (2024)
W-I-N-N-E-R
Maidaan (2024) - 100%
An Incredible Experience Created By The Trio Of Ajay Devgn, Amit Ravindernath Sharma & A. R. Rahman... Sports Drama Is A Popular Genre In India, But Very Few Movies Belonging To It Have Been Successful In Leaving An Impact On Audience's Mind... Some Notable Ones Are - Chak De India, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, MS Dhoni & Dangal... Talking About "Maidaan", I'll Say That It Easily Joins The Honorable Mentions & Will Gain Cult Status In Coming Years... If You Are Planning To Watch Any Film Right Now, Book Tickets For This One & Witness The Golden Era Of Indian Football & Inspirational Journey Of 'Syed Abdul Rahim' Who Lived & Died For The Game... DON'T MISS THIS ONE!
Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973)
E-N-T-E-R-T-A-I-N-I-N-G
Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973) - 100%
Nasir Hussain's Masala Blockbuster From The 1970s With Solid Repeat Value & An Impeccable Soundtrack Composed By R. D. Burman... "Yaadon Ki Baaraat" Offers Entertainment, Entertainment & Entertainment In Large Doses And It Does That With A Lot Of Style... Salim-Javed's Writing, Performances Of Dharmendra, Zeenat Aman, Ajit & Soulful Songs, Such As "Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko", "Lekar Hum Deewana Dil" Are Some Of The Biggest Strengths Of This Film... It Deeply Saddens Me That Today's Writers In Bollywood Have Completely Forgotten Their Roots And As A Result, They Churn Out Craps One After The Other Which No One Watches Even On Television.
Fighter (2024)
D-I-S-A-P-P-O-I-N-T-I-N-G
Fighter (2024) - 40%
The First Big Film And One Of The Most Awaited Films Of 2024 Has Been Watched And I Would Just Like To Ask - Why Man? A Movie Based On Indian Air Force Should Have Been About It, But "Fighter" Is More Of A Love Story Between Hrithik Roshan & Deepika Padukone... Another Huge Drawback Is The Lethargic Screenplay Which Keeps You Engaged Only In Parts... The Visuals Are Top-Notch And Get Full Marks, But When Writing Is Weak, They Won't Matter Much... Anil Kapoor Has Nothing Much To Do Here, But Still He Delivers A Sincere Performance... On The Whole, Fighter Is A Big Letdown From Siddharth Anand... Its An Edge Of The Seat Experience In Last 30 Minutes, But Rest Is A Borefest With Too Many Sub-Plots Playing Spoilsport.
