Kalki 2898-AD (2024)
When epics mix up with sci fi
Happy to have these kind of attempts in our country. It was just a Telugu movie but turned out as an Indian movie.
Concept: It is brilliant to mix the epic and sci-fi idea. We see a lot of Hollywood movies and that may be usual for us but the usual regional audience will feel wowww. I really admire the sync of Ashwathama as I have also heard the secret passage in Kashi with shiv lingam and a news about 12ft old man visiting a hospital at Gujarat. Why not the director to have such a thought having Ashwathama alive after 850 years from now!!!!
Making: It is top notch as there are no flaws in the computer graphics and also the technology shown does have a logic and bit of detailing reasons. Deserves an award specially for the post apocalyptic world and the Kashi Complex and the other people's den.
Screenplay: Lot of detailing done to each character and it literally consume more time in the 1st half and that is more required. 2K kids may feel bored to see such a slow play but I don't mind being slow to see the efforts the team has put in. 2nd half makes the movie clear to follow Amitabh Bachchan to get the story correct. First half was like we try to see the story from Prabhas point and that was no way connecting to the main plot.
Music: Santhosh Narayanan actually got a jackpot and feel he could have done better. His BGM is good and the songs could be different, so it reaches all audience.
Art work, Stunys and costumes: Art work of the post apocalypse world is excellent and equal to Hollywood levels. The wealthy region could be shown more better as the technology available in 2898 may have more improvements and that idea is no where visible. The weapons are cool ranging like the star wars. Stunts initially have tested the patience as Prabhas was able to deal one at a time and gives more details on his abilities. Good that same abilities were followed till the end.
Cast and Directon: Lot to name but Amitabh Bachchan steals the show and the hero of this part. His performance as a 6000 year old person is superb and geling to the graphics. He is a true legend in acting.
Prabhas is the villain actually and his performance is good compared to his Saaho and Radhe Shyam. He shows a funny side always and ambitious powerful person. His role was lesser and happy he allows that giving way to the script.
Deepika Padukone proves she can do a victim role great and with no grand costume and make up, she has given a great character output and stays in everyone mind. Her skill levels at best.
Shobana and Pasupathy playing a hard role in managing people and stunts sometime doing their job best as always.
Disha patani is just a glam doll to come for a song and wipes away.
Kamal Haasan another legend gets a great opening and an ending where his face have very very less visibility and his voice modulation gives the vibe worth being the villain.
Saswatha plays the villain on field all the movie and I m seeing his best...
Anna Ben, Malvika Nair comes for a short time but stays in the mind doing good with their performance.
Keerthi Suresh voice for the AI Bot is good and enjoyable.
Other cameos of Bharmanandham, Dulquer, Mrunal Thakur, Vijay Devarakonda are somehow useful for the story.
The cameos of Ram Gopal Varma, SS Rajamouli are useless and just fillers.
Director really had a vision and brought me into his world and the story really worked for me. The interval plot was ok but the climax cut was excellent and eager for the final cut.
Rasavathi (2024)
Slow burn poem
Rasavathi means alchemist who can be expert with chemicals but this does not fully go with the story. No harm but the movie is very good in other means.
There are just 3 main characters in the story Hero, heroine and villain.
The villain character is very well and neatly designed from the scene 1. His character arc was shown with his life problems and his actions to solve his problems. Also his mannerisms during his mental health changes is also clearly shown and lot of symbolic representations are excellent in story making.
The heroine character was very simple and her flashback was also shown in just 5 mins which was super excellent.
Hero character plays the next vital role as his character arc was tried to be delivered in very much detail. Starting from his lifestyle and his mannerisms are very much nice. His capacity to his profession and his knowledge on medicines are neatly placed on the story. Hero's flashback is very depthful and more of his skills are shown there and in that 30 min story, I felt like why the hell is this much detailing shown. Truly that could have been trimmed and it might be bore for a lot and definitely deviating from the present plot. Once we know the hero flashback does mean good relation to the present plot, mindset of audience may change to get involved.
Other noticable characters like the psychiatrist Ramya and SI character by Sundar also gel with the story when required. Music is a real good addition to the movie. There are 2 songs and one long musical scene of hero's flashback which was great.
Director Shantakumar presented this in a very critical story telling manner where this could have either been a very dark movie from the start. Out of his 3 movies, this is my personal favourite. If the director is ready to give us these range of similar movies, I am very much ready to visit the theatres....
Gangs of Godavari (2024)
Cringes of Godavari
Very poor movie. Before release there was a stage controversy from actor Balakrishna who pushed Anjali and that could have been a promotion to the movie. The trailer and director may claim this as a gangster movie but really is it'??
The 2 stars is for Yuvan Shankar Raja BGM as it was ultimate. Vishwak Sen is very new to me and I see him first and his appearance is good for a gangster movie. Heroines Anjali and Neha appears in many scenes and both are there to accompany vishwak Sen on screen. Villains are many and ultimately there to lose to the hero. No villain made an impactful performance.
There are absolutely no logic in the movie and the story is not through a point at all. All scenes are happening like a set of individual plot points and their combination doesn't look like a movie at all. There is no emotional factors to feel into the movie as everyone is a negative character and literally I watched like a stone.
I understand that KGF and Pushpa has inspired the audience and after those 2 all the directors think to give something like that and only end up garbage....
Maharaja (2024)
A director special presentation
More than VJS 50 this is Director special movie... Simple story but the presentation is excellent. Non linear story telling is a very difficult art and director Nithilan has done a masterpiece of it. Screenplay is very clear with VJS Maharaja's point of view. There are a lot comedy elements performed by VJS, Muneeshkanth, Natty and Aruldas.. The parallel story telling makes the plot very gripping and guessing what happened. The twists breaks from the interval and second half is even more gripping. The last 30 mins is top...
Great acting by everyone and the character arc given to each character is very detailed and scenes framing to show the character development is also brilliant.
I suggest a must watch movie...
Hit Man (2023)
The job that fakes to trap
Superb concept and entertaining movie.
I never knew this kind of task is there in the police department of the USA. They claim it is dangerous to have people with killing spree on mind and the department is more curious to make the people commit into a crime plan and arrest them.
The movie clearly explained how the department works and Gary's looks and body language to all his castings was great. His conversations towards the clients were interesting and must enjoy those. Maddison character really look lovely on screen and all the love & sex scenes between Ron (Gary) and Maddison are also cool. Other police station scenes and college scenes do explain lot of human nature and worth watching.
The ending and last few minutes are good and a great way to end a superb story. I enjoyed a lot.
Eric (2024)
Did Eric really needed for the play???
It's 6 hours slow burn drama. 6 episodes with 50 minutes of content each episode. Eric title doesn't justify the series as it was just for namesake and no real worth given for that character.
The show starts with the missing case of a 9 year old boy and with very few characters in the whole show. Almost there were 14 characters used for the whole series and few of them had no impact at all. The police inspector Lenoid was the powerful character and Vincent character played by Benedict Cumberbatch almost played half of the series and gets hidden most.
The first 4 episodes are very slow and with invaluable content filling the time. All characters have their good character arc and good it explains who they are and lesser characters did not confuse the plot. The last 2 episodes were good and the police character played the hero part. Chassie character is a waste and did not imperess much and Edgar behaved a good boy till last.
Less of action and long or detailed investigation scenss. The plot had 2 investigations of missing cases and if both have been simultaneously shown, the play would be very interesting. But poor 2nd investigation happened only in last 2 episodes. Again supporting LGBT doesn't need to graphic more of those scenes where there is no scene for a straight sex. My claim is to avoid visuals atleast....
Oru Nodi (2024)
Worthy crime investigation fiction
Story starts from frame 1 and worthy crime investigation thriller... Yes the plot directly starts with the man missing case registered at the police station and immediately the investigation starts. The plot moves like connecting the brief given and the list of characters are introduced and we do keep guessing what happened. To keep us more engaged there occurs the 2nd case and simultaneous investigation makes us not to move away from the screen. There are very few boring scenes like song of the victim family and love interest. Apart from that there are no nuicance scenes like intro song, punch dialogue or comedy portions to slow the pace. The movie ends with good twist and worth watching...
Garudan (2024)
When faith leaps into emotions....
Story of how a Dog becomes a man... No offence- I just wanted to convey the conviction of faith like a dog converts to valuable emotional
The story revolves with the trio all the time Sasi Kumar, Soori and Unni with tensions all the time. Sasi Kumar and Soori have done exceptionally well and it's Sasi Kumar the hero of the movie supported by Soori. Sasi stole the stage almost the whole show and Soori at last 30 mins. Shivada, vadivukarasi and remembered for their performance and the heroine Revathi gets hidden and not so worthy.. Roshini enters the silver screen and worthy role and if she does these supporting roles, she can atleast earn fame and money - but if she demands heroine roles, just get lost...
Overall violence is heavily shown and I wonder how U/A was provided. Songs and BGM did not stick to mind and Yuvan never came to mind.
Thalaimai Seyalagam (2024)
Gripping and enjoyable political sattaire
The plot begins very well with a situation of a judgement day on a Chief Minister. What happened on the case till now was not the story but what will happen next is played in the 8 episode series. All episodes start well and end well by engaging us to see the next episode to know what is going to happen. There are noticable known stars in the story and very easily we can identify them and involve into the story. There are good twists and turns which makes the story more interesting. There is a subline story which is also moving with the main story and that connects only at the last episode and the director has done well to present.
As the story covers only with these characters, we are really amazed to know what a CM does to the state and are there no more issues to deal with? May be those are negative points to just add up and really who cares those and that might make the script boring.
Shriya Reddy is the main lead and equally supported by Kishore. Deepa Venkat voice for Shriya was very apt and both rocked and holder the whole series well. Ramya Nambeesan, Barath, Adithya, Y Gee, Santhanam barathi and others also supported well and stay on my mind.
Well written script by Jeyamohan and Vasantha Balan. Gibhran music also worked good and overall class series to definitely watch...
Deo Eiteu Syo (2024)
One more Korean series in trend
There may be references of squid game and it doesn't replicate all the part. However this series involves just 8 artists on the whole and not even noticable support artists to name or remember. Similar to the squid game the series wakes up from the initial episode and creates interest to go further. The plot director delivers from several point of views of the cast but strongly wanted to show up the poor ones part. There is a classification of privileged and unprivileged where the privileged labours the others and when revolution happens the the table turns. Since there are no other characters available on the plot, the story and scenes stick on within the same faces and tend to bore in middle.
If you watch the play from the unprivileged side, director wins and if you watch neutral, you are working the master and to share my experience - I went cruel and slightly supported the privileged side...
The Family Star (2024)
Family star which rise well and die soon
The initial teasers were really giving the great impression and bringing the mood of another blockbuster. The trailer released near the movie game me a doubt what does this story will have in US. First one hour of the movie was extraordinary and really wanted to share the experience and suggest my friends for a theatre watch. The twist 10 mins before the interval was good but the next 10 mins was horrible. The 2nd half almost takes place in US and the script has failed to give the entertainment of the 1st half and all emotions went off and just irritating scenes with no story movement. The climax and a villain was certainly introduced to have a stunt sequence and it was very bad. Over all this is better to watch in OTT as we can fast forward all the boring scenes (a lot is there in 2nd half)....
The Kitchen (2023)
Doesn't tell anything to us
Titled Kitchen and it obviously brought me the thought of a cooking kind of movie or something related to food. No this Kitchen is totally a different concept.
Firstly Netflix promos made me to fall into the pit like bringing me the interest to this Kitchen with a scene where someone makes a selection on the monitor and an AI replying with emotion. Seeing that I thought this is some brilliant stuff picturing the future. But the whole movie was utter nonsense. Also there was mention with some Oscar nominees and being a pulling factor for this movie.
I m totally dissatisfied with the Kitchen and the script is very week. The lead characters behave like a father and son and there is very little detail on that and in simple people would suffer for space and money in the future is only evident from this movie.
Animal (2023)
Titled Animal after shooting??
I know there has been 1000+ reviews already and still I just want mine to be stored somewhere.
I first appreciate the director Sandeep and Ranbir for giving 3.5 hours movie. The recent mindset of people has tuned themselves watching movies >2 hours like a pain. Personally I love to watch lengthier movies and thanks for that.
Animal is completely non-linear in story telling where the director and hero lives misogynist I guess where there is no respect or even a decent role for any women. Ultimately the story starts from future with a narrative speaking some nonsense and which is no way related to the movie. Starting from that scene the story switches between timelines and making a poor viewer confused. I just can't list positives and negatives because the production company announced 900crores box office and I m worried what happened to the world.
In simple, Animal is a pure troll and meme material and can last for another 15 years with this kind...
Hwangya (2024)
Fed up with post apocalyptic world
Yes I am actually fed up with the post apocalyptic movies and series. Actually I m fed up with these plots itself. As usual the movie starts with a calamity and a doctor trying to survive or help his sick daughter. Why the daughter is sick is not revealed but the calamity happens and at the same time militants arrest the doctor. After several years the world is suffering and hero becomes a alpha survivor. Same story right and a group trying to use the remaining people for some research and no government nor judicial. The plot moves with the hero invading to the research facility and what research is done and who is the villain here and the story atleast ends with some positive scene. The full movie is action based and lot of zombie kind of scenes and one more in this kind - nothing special. I m just happy that the movie is available in Tamil.
Lift (2024)
Not a heist adventure
The movie lacks heist elements, comedy and logic as well. Kevin Hart movie is expected to be hilarious and action, but both are missing. The movie is full casted with popular actors and that alone serves the eye catching point. Very poor making and gripping scenes for a heist adventure. The computer graphics work is good but that doesn't make the movie interesting. There are very few twists and turns on the script and more of them in the last few kind of the movie. The villain character is weak and no worth or it matter who the hero gang works for. The movie is available in many languages and that is one added good point for wider reach...
Prey (2022)
A justifiable prequel to the legendary Predator of 1987
Never expected such a wonderful prequel.
The plot happens almost 400 years back and the locations or art work really makes us feel same way. I can compare to the revenant movie of seeing such place and bears fight.
Woman protagonast is added key factors and her learnings and the tactics she uses are very new. They are wonderful to watch and kudos to the team.
Stunts are the most highlighted parts and amazing with the action sequences and specially during the last 30 mins of the 1-1 face off and the French team ones.
Computer graphics and music are also in line for the plot and really a super movie....
Day Shift (2022)
Fun + Thrill + comedy throughout
Thats good entertainment...
Jamie Foxx scores at all places - Action, comedy and sentiment also.
Simple and easy concept of vampire hunter and not more confusions on the plot.
This considered as a profession is really a nice thought and love these scripts. Usually the villains would be shown very powerful and during the end of the movie, it will almost be tragic and we will also lose interest in the action or sad scenes. But this Day shift have no such scenes and throughout the movie it was interesting and gripping.
Love the making and 100% entertainment+thrill guaranteed.
Nope (2022)
Animals do live and we do lot of abuse
An IMAX experience after months....
In faith to get thrilled after the Get Out movie - I watched Nope and it was really worthy...
Just like humans, animals do their lives to live free.. When the animal is offended - it takes down anything which is blocking it. It applies to aliens well - and a similar show is this Nope...
Each animal showed on the movie has a name and each animal had its story. Ofcourse all stories ended pathetic and the alien here is also compared to an animal and how the characters tackle when it is offended...
The whole plot revolves around a small town near the California and very few characters - so each of them are remembered and lot of depth shown to everyone...
Technically Nope is very good and music also was very new and superbly suit for this new kind of story telling..
Deja Vu (2022)
As expected the end was a Dejavu...
It's a wow to entertain us in the Tamil industry as this is quite unusual to risk with these kind of script.
The bigges will never pick this and the new comers won't give us such an entertainment. Arulnidhi who picks he scripts with super thrill has provided one more good.
I like this plot and there are emotional outputs on the script which one way will always be the expectations from Tamil audience. The story gears up on the first frame itself and no way deviating with the usual comedy, romance and songs. I was happy seeing the hero introduced after 30th minute. That's a great inclusion and out of the usual formula.
The 1st half was very pacy and the same gear was not flowing in the 2nd half. As the emotions and flashbacks slowed the plot and many would not like that so....
The movie is filled with Arulnidhi and Achyuth for almost 75 minutes. Yes it is interesting and there are lot of breakthroughs and suspense elements.
We can enjoy throughout and ending scenes are not possible in the real life scenario but as a movie I accept it.
Thiruchitrambalam (2022)
I felt a bored 133 mins
I didn't see as a neutral fan and so my review will not be apt for this movie...
I felt bored almost all the time.
Barathirajaa & Nithya Menon were the best performers. Nithya Menon was one step ahead.
As usual Dhanush picked 3 heroines who were not part of his previous movies. He never pairs with the same face again even if the story demands.
Songs were not repeating in my mind as I am not a fan of Dhanush voice. I still don't understand why he sings 3 songs in every movie. To my taste Dhanush spoiled a song in Jail movie. His base voice don't suit all places...
Overall I felt bored and my personal opinion..
Jiivi 2 (2022)
A proper sequel and all dots connected well
Accurately starts from the part 1 climax and moves further. The therory is still followed in the movie and the dots are still creating the problems to the characters.
The story is explained very well and the loose ends of part 1 is also solved as there would not be further issues from the theory.
Luckily no characters on the movie died in real life - so a proper sequel was delivered with no compromise.
The 99 mins thriller is another mind blowing entertainer for tamil audience. Must watch after seeing part 1...
Irudhi Pakkam (2021)
Last page told the story but dirty
Irudhi Pakkam - the last page...
Refers to a book and it's evident that she was a writer in the story and something was related to the book.
There is a suspense and long investigation scenes which leads till the end to maintain the suspect...
The idealogy tried to impose by the story was but rubbish and somehow the scenes were close to reality.
The revenge concept remains foolish as 2 characters were involved Prashant and Mithun. Where Prashant did not harm that big to get revenged but Mithun was very lightly revenged - even being the most cruel on the script....
I am confused if the director is out of mind many times...
Peacemaker (2022)
Not an usual spin-off series
Since HBO Max is not available in India - I had to wait till Amazon prime provides it. It was available on pirated version but I waited till now to enjoy.
Getting to know 8 episodes - I actually got worried how well it should be... But all the 8 episodes were brilliant and entertaining.
Usually the spin-off series will explain the prequel story or origin of any character but this is a sequel to Suicide Squad 2. James Gunn is a genius. By giving the Justice League 2 - he saved and renowned the WB or DC universe and by giving this superb peacemaker series - he gives tough to other superhero Stories...
John Cena has delivered a great and different character in this series. His comedy and action was good and his emotions were very good.
Jennifer Holland - such a beauty and girlfriend of James Gunn, has done her role and I had a doubt how she will pair John Cena ... As I worried she played a seperate role and not involved in a kiss or romance scene.. somehow seeing her on screen was itself enough for me.
The vigilante, Economics, Ludo master and Leota characters were used a full time comedians and they were also posted very good. Sophie and Auggie appeared as villains but did not fill on action sequences well.
The butterfly issue was a justice league level threat and solving them with these characters was shown superbly and James Gunn proves he is a king....
Definitely a must watch series and adult only series.
Paper Rocket (2022)
No doubt - it's a feel good travelling
7 episodes and almost of 4 hours of length.
Just 6 major characters and their disasters which leads them to mental issues.... Ofcourse a travel can solve them - which is proven and I do believe it is the solution.
The first episode revolves more on Kalidas and I actually thought how much I can watch further but from episode 2 ot totally changed. When more characters are introduced the story seemed different and wanted more of their convos...
The ending was good and ofcourse logically there has to be sad scenes which are not boring or make us uncomfortable...
Overall it's a U rated series and can be watched by all.
Gargi (2022)
That's a lesson to face the society
The script is clearly presented with introduction of the lead characters and their life. The victim and the main problem to focus where the movie becomes more gripping and actually left is clueless why and who could be the culprit.... The climax twist and the decision was excellent and most importantly the message delivered was overwhelming.
Sai pallavi facing the issue as a middle class working woman and dealing the police, media and others in the society made me like living next to her. Without make up and grand dressing she is very apt for the role and deserves an award.
Kali venkat's role as a lawyer is very new to us and different in plot. His stammering voice is not required but I once felt it spoils the pace and understanding of the dialogues. Since it was on OTT - I can reverse to check it, but at theatres it is a pain point.
I also thought Saravanan as a poor performer and couldn't hold that father role - but he blowed his best at Gargi house seeing her sister character. Excellent Saravanan.
RS Sivaji looks apt and moulded with his appearance and reactions. He did justice in the role - not inside the script 😅..
Livingston, Jai Prakash, the police men and others performed good to their part.
Must watch.....
