Funland (2005)
Like the League of gentleman ? You'll love this
I don't buy anything on DVD ever but I own this. I watched this when it was first screened and I've watched it a lot since. As you'd expect from the writers of the League of gentleman it's deliciously dark and full of clever little references. Judy Parfitt as Mercy makes a fantastic villain and the whole cast are excellent the story Twists and turns wonderfully and just who is in the gorilla suit.
Murder in Provence (2022)
A bit Sunday night even for a sunday
Think Maigret does Midsomer murders but with even less threat. Roger Allam usually excellent in everything seem strained and struggles to be believable in this role. It's comfy nice Sunday night murder I mean it's better than McDonald & Dodds but what isn't ! It's entirely upper middle class pretence seems desperately fake and the characters have less depth than a puddle in a heatwave. It remains a mystery to me that ITV and Allan haven't expanded on the character of Thursday in Endeavour a role he's really made his own and that could easily have been spun off in to a pre Endeavour series.
