Josie & Jack (2019)
Left in the Dark
I know it's important to stay within the budget, but couldn't the producers have paid for a little ambient light in which to film this thing? Watching a blue-black screen for an hour is just plain irritating. Also, moodiness and silence only gets you so far. If Jack can tell Josie to "just get over it and move on" when she is brutally raped by Carmichael, we are justified in telling these two tortured souls that there are many other options than their nihilistic stroll down the rathole of partying, sex, alcohol, and drugs. They are too smart to settle for living parasitically off Jack pimping himself out to the Lillys of this world.
Murder in Provence (2022)
Aaaargh 😱
Thursday, Thursday, how COULD you be a part of this steaming pile of offal? This is hands down the most uninspired, tedious, soporific somnabulent ever produced, directed and thrown on a screen in the history of theatre.
We have never before fallen asleep in a show. We may have abandoned one as hopeless or inept, but by Freyja, this did it. If you make it through an episode, follow it up with "Waiting for Godot." You'll think you're in an action film!
Rotten script, cringeworthy story line, implausible plot, ridiculous characters. Did I mention tedious?
Thursday, did you need new tyres? I'd of spotted you a few quid! Honestly! Please, make it go away!
Being Human (2008)
Pilot's Chemistry Evaporates in Episode1
I resumed watching Being Human after the pilot. I had to check twice to see if I was watching the same show. The characters and their portrayals of all but the werewolf became beige and boring. My mind wandered and my interest faded. I kept checking to see if it was really the same show as the pilot. I had touted the show to my wife but felt she would be baffled by my suggestion that we watch. Talk about bait and switch! What were they thinking? I hope your take is different, but I felt cheated. What happened? Why did the leads in the original cast bail? I hope they landed in good places. Watch the pilot and move on!
The Secret Circle (2011)
Captivating, but Flawed
This show is initially captivating but settles into a repetative cycle of crisis and resolution that becomes tedious. The character Faye is so exasperatingly narscisistic, clueless, and impulsive that it's implausible that she has a driver's license, much less a witches certificate! And her little vapid sidekick is just annoying.
The cast are able and the acting is good. But the storyline: it''s just utterly implausible that in the face of mortal danger and horrible events that these characters just shrug, split up, and blithely go off to the next sock-hop despite their very survival depending upon sticking together. Disappointing.
Aber Bergen (2016)
Flawed, vexing characters engage the viewer!
Great parallel story lines. The characters are interesting both in their strengths and weaknesses. There are no simple good guys/bad guys, although some are more flawed than others.
I see a few viewer reviews in the 'boring' column. Perhaps a few car chases would satisfy them. The suspense and tension of some serious sinister elements keeps this viewer anxious and engaged.
The writing and dialogue are excellent. It takes some willpower to resist binging!
It's vexing to have the main character so weak and flawed: no, no don't be such a weak selfish adolescent and bonk Unna just to get back at your ex-wife! Aaaargh!
The Commander (2003)
Audience Baited and Switched
Starts well and then abruptly becomes an awkward, embarrasing, implausible stab in the actors' and viewers' backs. I'm surprised the cast didn't walk out when they got the script for the second episode.
There is no way a person so stupid could ever rise to this level. The screenwriter needs to publicly apologize for this mess.
How does this happen? Who was in charge? Did they have a grudge? This is like letting a friend walk into the dining room with her dress tucked into her knickers or not telling someone their fly is open at graduation.
I will avoid watching anything penned by this screen writer.
