Supernatural: Changing Channels (2009)
Trickster vs Wichester take 3
I don't think the creators could help themselves. This is a Supernatural parody of most of the shows on TV, and though they shouldn't throw stones when they live in glass houses this was very well done.
This was the third Trickster installment and it was very well done. They managed to make fun of Grey's Anatomy and with it medical dramas, sci-fi flicks, cheap crime solving shows, games shows and my personal favorite, the sitcom. They were all clever and the boys in these roles were downright hilarious. The fact that Supernatural captured the best/worst aspects of these shows was wonderful.
The entire episode was mostly silly but it wasn't annoying and over the top, it was quite tasteful and watchable. The only sober bit in the entire episode was when they manage to trap the Trickster/Gabriel and they have a conversation. That was of course amazingly unexpected. All together it was a surprisingly awesome episode with very few flaws.
Monday Report (2004)
Gotta be Canadian
This can be the funniest show if you get it. It is of higher political intelligence so unfortunately not everybody gets it. Another condition is you MUST be Canadian. The cultural humor won't be understood elsewhere. All comedians have different styles and techniques to produce their comedy. Mercer is no different. He puts himself out there and does it in the most humorous way possible. He's funny, unpredictable, and up for anything. For that reason the Mercer Report is almost like a reality TV show... All except better. (Way better.) I always sit down to watch this show whenever I can. I am rarely... if ever... disappointed.
How I Met Your Mother: Girls vs. Suits (2010)
Nothing Suits Him Like A Suit
I think this is my favorite episode so far in the fifth season. On one hand we have Barney's newest exploration/fascination of the fairer sex and on the other we have Ted getting closer to "the Mother" and a much bigger reminder of what the show is all about... Because lets face it, sometimes we forget.
The first half of the episode we have Barney chasing a hot bartender and strangely finding himself in a situation of choosing between girls and suits. The scene where Barney is suiting up in the bathroom being similar to that scene in Pulp Fiction where John Travolta is doing drugs is hilarious. Though it is nothing compared to Barney singing "Nothing Suits me Like a Suit". The entire sing-along was very clever and so in character. The other part of the episode is Ted going on a date with Cindy the "Mother's" roommate. This is a reminder to the audience that Ted still has yet to meet the "Mother". It was really great how Ted was in Cindy's bedroom and picked out the three things that had been borrowed from the "Mother", given to Cindy by the "Mother" or was the "Mother's". All in all this was a great episode 100th filled with sweet moments (when Ted sees the "Mother's" foot), great laughs (Barney mourning the "death" of his suit), and wicked singing (Barney's mini musical) Episode Highlights: The Girls vs Suits sing-along, Ted receiving the first description of his future wife ("She's a whore," given by Rachel Bilson who was a wonderful guest star), and the scene where Barney is going into withdrawal from not wearing a suit... he starts rubbing up against Marshal's suited arm and actually doling out a kiss. (Marshal lightly slaps his cheek to wake him up.)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Life Serial (2001)
Not Very Good
For me the sixth season hasn't been very good so far. But this episode was sorta like rock bottom. Okay, I admit there were good parts (Namely Spike playing 'Kitten Poker'), but I just found it incredibly stupid! The general idea of the trio being the new 'Big Bad' is just laughable... And NOT the kind of laughable the writers were clearly aiming for. I could understand this being a sorta jokey episode meant for fooling around but it just wasn't very funny. Another thing that bugged me was that in the beginning of the episode where Giles, Willow, Tara, Dawn, and Buffy were talking about what to do about money Buffy completely shirks the idea of getting a job. Instead she goes off about avoiding paying certain bills to pay other ones it was just plain irresponsible not to mention selfish. I understand that happening with 17 year old but with 20 soon-to-be-21 year old it was really exasperating. All in all the only good part that didn't have me vomiting in my mouth was the 'Kitten Poker' (thanks Spike). Hopefully you found it more enjoyable then I did.
Little Mosque on the Prairie (2007)
Excellent
I was reluctant to watch this show because CBC hadn't had much luck with comedies in my opinion. I was wrong to stay away... Little Mosque on the Prairie is one of THE best TV shows I've ever seen. I absolutely love it! It is clever with some very quirky humor and well thought-out drama that a hell of a lot of American shows would be jealous of. And when you factor in the superb depiction of small town life you have to admit the show takes perfect to a whole new level. Little Mosque on the Prairie is a fabulous, charismatic, and a brilliantly wild ride with great actors and actresses to keep you compelled for a good long time. I hope you watch and enjoy it as much as I do.
