Kill (2023)
Kill
Good movie by Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt, debutant Lakshya was excellent in acting. It is a desi version of John Wick series but with a local twist. Tanya did not have much role but glowed in her limited screen presence. Usually NSG commandoes are an elite group of commandoes within the Indian Army and are usually trained for any extreme war scenarios. So the director and scipt writer did a good job in combining the dacoity in a moving train with the presence of Indian Army. Terrific acting by debutante and the villian Raghav Juyal , both of them complimented each other. The action scenes were shot excellent and the gore was epic. Never in the history of Indian movie making, the action scenes were shot with such intricate details. The movie is a treat to movie goers who love the genre of violence and the movie is definitely not for the faint hearted. The way the movie created fear in the dacoits mid way into the movie is worth the watch on big screens. It also showcased how the Indian Army and NSG commandoes are trained during the service.
Fighter (2024)
Fighter
Desi version of Top Gun with a long long showtime with little to offer. The length of the movie was very long around 2 hrs and 45 mins with a routine topic of patriotism and border issues. Pulawama Attack was a good topic but the execution was poor. In fact, the Pulawama attack was shown in a better way than in Article 370. But if a viewer watches Article 370 followed by Fighter, one can see the differences. There was no chemistry between Hrithik and Deepika . It was one of the the most awkward pairing in recent times. There was nothing in the movie other than the stunning beauty of Jammu and Kashmir. School of Honour showing off his six pack abs and machismo with no emotions in some scenes and Deepika desperate to fall in love with him was cringe worthy. Sanjeeda Sheikh was good. These days no father of a girl child has denied her to pursue her ambition. In fact, more women are commerical pilots in our country than men. It was a very incorrect depiction of parenting shown in the movie just to increase the showtime and to put some more masala in the movie. Asutosh Rana was wasted just like that. Batch camaraderie was shown very poorly in the movie.
Hi Nanna (2023)
65 Roses
65 Roses does rhyme like the familiar advertisement " Brooke Bond 3 Roses". The film relies heavily on the sentiments and emotions of the audience. It's a tried and tested story albeit told in a different way. Or we can say Old Wine in a New bottle. The movie was cliche and predictable with hero and his wife getting into an accident in the first half, hero narrating his own story to the daughter with his mother sitting across the coffee table. It is the emotions displayed on the screen which makes the movie likeable. Dollops of emotional scenes and tears running down the cheeks of the audience. Mrunal is like a breath of fresh air and proving that she is a versatile actor . The movie rests on the shoulders of Nani who acted brilliantly throughout. He showed a lot of poise and restraint throughout the movie and relied a lot on the narrative of the director. Family entertainer and Mahi is indeed a good actor.
Ghoomer (2023)
Ghoomer
The movie was more about Grit and determination against all odds to play for the country. The twist in the plot was too good at the climax of the movie wherein it was revealed that the coach was only responsible of the fatal accident of the player. In real life we do see some unique bowling action of players like Lasith Malinga of Srilanka and Cinaman Paul Adams of South Africa who went on to become successful bowlers.
What seemed to be odd was over dramatisation of the success wherein in the title song every spectator was mocking the action of Sayaami Kher. That should have been avoided and it didn't look like they were enjoying her success at all. Rather it seemed to be a mockery of her bowling action and her disability. The script was good and Junior AB rocked his performance this time and there was no need for AB Senior to help his son out in this movie at least. R. Balki sure knows how to connect to Indian audience and always ensures to cast father and son duo in his movie. The movie was truly inspirational and portrayed that if we as human beings set our minds to a particular task or job and give our best then" Nothing is impossible". That Gobar scene was highlight of the movie. There was no details of which series the Indian Team was playing whether it was a bilateral series or a WC. Whether the movie was a work of fiction or based on some true story which makes a spectator wonder whether the movie is based on some true story or real life incidents.
12th Fail (2023)
12th Fail
It was Massey all the way like Messi led Argentina for the Soccer WC few years ago. States like Bihar are notorious for cheating in the exams. There are several centres where even the inviligators and teachers aid the students to pass the exam. For these students , passing the matriculation exam is the biggest achievement due to lack of proper education and infrastructure in rural areas. In such a scenario, clearing the UPSC exam for any student is indeed a harculean task. In real life too, many aspirants do not even clear the UPSC exam even after five or six attempts due to sheer competition involved. The way Massey displayed sheer grit , determination and perseverance in the movie was adorable. Certain movies should be made a part of school curriculum so that students need to be inspired by real life stories. Not many in Hindi movie industry get the opportunity to play a lead actor with such a strong script and Massey nailed it. The movie is definitely worth a watch with family and kids who dare to dream big in our country. Kudos to the entire team of cast and crew involved in this movie.
Sam Bahadur (2023)
Sam Bahadur
Sam Maneckshaw was one of the two Field Marshals who served the Indian Army. The director did a very good job and so did Vicky Kaushal. Vicky tried to emulate the legend in every possible way from the way Sam Sir used to talk, walk and behave. A lot of research has gone into making the movie which was clearly visible in the movie. Considering the limited time of 2 hrs 30 mins , the director only could show only the most relevant aspects of his life. There could have been many such moments in the Field Marshals real life which were indeed inspiring and needed to be brought to reel but must have been left out. The makers may have considered the option of making a Web Series out of his achievements. It is stranger that fictional characters get showtime of 3 hrs 30 minutes these days while legends only get 2 hrs 30 minutes of screen time. Great work by the entire team involved beginning from Mohd. Zeeshan Ayub to Fathima Sana Sheikh and Sanya Malhotra. The movie had excellent punch lines and humour too.
Month of Madhu (2023)
Madhu
The director nailed the movie. Brilliant acting by Naveen and Swathi Reddy. The movie flips along the lives of two individuals before and after marriage. How a wife stayed with her husband for 19 years , the virtue of patience, and how finally the patience wears out in a relationship. The way Naveen Chandra responded to the question in the movie " Why did his walk out from him " was simply great . He went to mutton shop to buy mutton and she simply was not at home when he came back. Kudos to the entire team , even the 19 year old Madhu trying to understand relationships from her viewpoint was also well captured. In a relationship, we cannot take our partners for granted and if we ever take them then what would be the end result is what this movie was all about.
I would love to see more movies from the director and writer of this movie. The movie was released without any marketing or fanfare but had a very good content and strong acting performances from the cast.
One of Naveen Chandra's best performance till date. The conversation of Harsha Chemudu and Naveen while drinking was also nice.
Harsha Chemudu also did his part very well in the movie.v.
Jawan (2023)
Jawan
The movie is a stupidity which cannot be justified nor can be watched on a OTT. After talking from an airplane, if there is anyone who can be saved that is God. The movie starts with farmer issues , then drifts away to lack of basic amenities in government hospitals, then further wanders away to corruption in Army and finally to misuse of right to vote and cash for vote . The issue of farmer suicides has already been covered in n number of movies and add to that the issue of waiver of agricultural loans was taken up . There was no story in this Atlee movie, the story was wafer thin. Horrible story which only SRK would have bankrolled. So , he produced his own movie and acted in it and gave a chance to Atlee to direct the movie.
Will we ever produce a movie like' Gravity' or Oppenheimer " or will our future generation will be watching this kind of dumb movies.
There was nothing Jawan in the movie other than the title. There was no need to name this movie as Jawan rather it should have been named as VFX magic.
Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery (2023)
Jackfruit Mystery
It's shocking to know that it was the brainchild of a debutant director. Netflix has a unique choice when it comes to which movies need to be promoted. The sudden disappearance of jackfruit from the garden of a local MLA creates a stir in the neighbourhood. The MLA takes the police machinery for a ride and orders the department for enquiry and file an FIR for the disappearance of jackfruit. Rajpal Yadav as a news reporter was very witty and funny in some scenes and Sanya Malhotra as cop had done a good job. It was totally a different topic to make a movie nevertheless, a job well done. There were no songs and at times it was a bit slow. MLA always taking a dig at his son in law was very satirical and would lead the audience to believe that indeed he has stolen the jackfruit but the end scene reveals it all . Its a modern day satire on the entire system as to how a local MLA can use the police machinery for his or her benefits which is also true in today's scenario.
Bloody Daddy (2023)
Bloody Daddy
The movie was made differently especially the fight sequences. The opening scene was too good and was bang on. The BGM in some of the scenes was excellent. The fight sequences between Aman and Shaheed Kapoor was shot in Hollywood style may be the makers have roped in or taken cues from action directors of Hollywood movies. From the beginning of the movie right till the end, it was not easy to say who was the good cop while who was playing the bad cop. The suspense required to watch the movie was maintained right till the end and some scenes were really edge of the seat. Overall it was very good and excellent movie with Ronit Roy playing the bad role to perfection. Sanjay Kapoor too essayed the role of baddie perfectly. What felt really good like the makers acknowledgement of the movie to be a remake of a French movie and did not want to take any credit for the story. Good direction and excellent acting by the cast involved.
Dasara (2023)
Dasara- Which is bigger love or lust ??
The movie is a proof of old wine in a new bottle. If the story is same, but the director or cinematographer or script writer has a different way of putting forward the same story then it will connect with the audience. The director of Rangasthalam started on the same note- Caste issues much prevalent in our society and added booze to the story yet managed to draw the audience to the theatres. The background music was different so was the acting of Naani and some key dialogues when Keerthy Suresh asks Naani as to why did he marry her. The ending was totally stylish and unexpected too. Some very good dialogues to be remembered for a long time are - Which is important - Lust or Love. ?? I am scared of the love Dharani has for you - classic dialogues. Few songs were good too. It may not connect well with audience who love popcorn romance like in Yash Chopra movies and typical Telugu movies but O. Srikanth did a very good job in this movie.
Pathaan (2023)
Bollywood answer to Mission Impossible
Tom Cruise stopped the Chimera virus with his flashy hairstyle and superbike way back in early 2000s in never ending MI series. Here Pathaan stopped the virus from spreading by displaying his six pack abs and jumping over trains and buildings . He gets beaten to pulp by the muscular and emotionless half Android John Abraham yet he saves the country at the last moment. That's Pathaan . Since he saves an Afghan village from being blown to tatters, he is named as Pathaan. If he would have saved an Indian village from being bombed he would have been named ' Sultan' . The director chose to combine two different worlds of Pathan and Tiger as in MCU and DCU or as our director of Kaithi and Vikram. Even the idea of combining two parallel stories into one story is also copied. When will Bollywood rise up and write it's own story apart from copying from the Hollywood and regional movies. To add to the woes , the movie raked in more than 600 crore . Audience has lost its taste and choice in movies. Movie making in Bollywood has become a cut copy paste exercise with no originality. Now, in future there will be movies titled Pathaan ki Wapsi , Pathaan Zindaa Hai, Pathaan aur Tiger , Pathaan part 2, so on and so forth.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022)
Astraverse Part I Bloopers
The visuals and VFX were stunning and one of its kind in the world of Hindi cinema. Save that the entire movie was a forgettable experience. The dialogues were so repetitive Tum Kaun Ho Shiva ? Kaun Ho Tum ? The producers reportedly spent 200 crore on the movie , if only they could spend one crore on the story , the movie would have been far better.
The lead actor at the beginning of the movie did not know the hindi word for " light" and repeatedly used english words during his interaction with the actress. At the end of the movie, he learnt the word and started using the hind word " prakash" instead of light. What a horrible and pathetic dialogues in the movie?
The time between Varanasi to Himalayas was shown to be 20 hours in the movie. I wonder how they could reach Himalayas within 20 hours when the actual time is around 32 hours.
The movie is excruciatingly long.
Khuda Haafiz: Chapter 2 - Agni Pariksha (2022)
Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2
There is hardly any movie wherein the sequel was made better than the first part as far as i can recall. One was Gangs of Wasseypur and the other being the recent movie of Tom Cruise Top Gun. The movie is very well written and well directed. It depicted the recent incidents in our country better than some of the recent movies. Vidyut Jamwal needs to improve on his facial expressions. It seems he puts up the same face in every scene especially the emotional scenes. The fight scene in the jail with the giant was well shot and directed. The child had a limited role to play . When we read these incidents being reported in newspapers it shows a very sorry state of affairs in our country. The build up of the story in the first half was slow but it really caught up in the second half. It's nice to see movies with no star kids and A list actors performing well and winning the hearts of the audience.
Gargi (2022)
Gargi
Sai Pallavi was mesmerizing and brilliant acting. Definitely one of the feathers in her cap. In the first half showing as a doting daughter who always cared for her father in troubled times. She went with her emotions and gut feeling thinking that her father was innocent. The character played by the lawyer was very good. In the second half the investigation and uncovering of the truth was directed very well. A movie worth watching, well directed and excellent performance by the cast involved. The administering of adult dosage to a minor was very informative. The director kept the audience guessing till the last moment as to who was the 5th accused. For a moment even i believed that Gargi's father was innocent till the last scene or climax. I felt the crime was committed by Gargi's father best friend but it turned out to be Gargi's father. Its very sad to see what a person can do when he is inebriated or intoxicated. He has no control of his senses and commits a grave mistake only to repent later on. Its definitely worth watching.
Thank You (2022)
Thank You
Naga Chaitanya acted in a feel good movie after a long time. It's decent like 6.50/10. Rashi and avika gor too acted well. Usually the foreigners are more courteous than Indians. In countries like Denmark and France , residents are very courteous and thank for any small help offered to them. We don't often say " Thank You" to people who have actually helped us in our lives. We are becoming more and more self- centric. So the movie had an important lesson that we should thank our friends and relatives who have helped us in our lives. Naga Chaitanya acting needed a bit of improvement in some scenes. One thing to note was it snowed when Naga Chaitanya first landed in USA looking for a job. It snowed when Naga Chaitanya app " Vaidya " was soaring overnight. It was again snowing when Prakash Raj went to Naga Chaitanya to seek help but was turned down by the latter. It again snowed when Rashi Khanna went to a hospital for abortion. It again snowed when Naga Chaitanya went to beg forgiveness for behaving rudely to Prakash Raj family and finally it again snowed in the climax scene. It seems Naga Chaitanya loves Snow in real life . I don't recall which state in USA has so much snowfall . Would love to visit the state someday. It's such a silly thing to watch in movies. Rest was good 👍. Rashi Khanna went to a hospital for abortion but the reason why she chose not to was not shown in the movie. I guess the director must have forgotten to show the reason - inconsequential may be to the script writer or director.
Sailaja Reddy Alludu (2018)
Son in law of Shailaja Reddy
Shailaja Reddy is very egoistic. She won't compromise anywhere. Her daughter is a spitting image of her mother. She also won't compromise anywhere. Our hero Nag Chaitanya has no work other than to bring them together and to marry the damsel. Only postive point is Anu Emmanuel looks pretty in the movie. There is nothing in the movie. Utter waste of time and energy. Hawla movie. If nag chaitanya keeps on acting in flop movies his career would be over soon.
Pakka Commercial (2022)
Pakka Zandu Balm
What a waste movie . Even if someone gives me free ticket to this movie , i would rather not waste three hours of my time. Such a worst movie. Such sleaziness in every scene. Rao Ramesh is so cheap and sleazy. I couldn't understand why did he accept the role in this movie. He is a womanizer and all he does is dances and sleeps with them. But the movie did not show how is he earning so much money to buy the lawyers and to tamper with the evidences . Only meaningful scene in the movie was when the hero puts his father on trial and shows off his knowledge. Even the ending was so so unconvincing and so predictable. Rashi Khanna voice was so crass. I wished I had not watched the movie. I have to ponder why the movie was made unless there is an ulterior motive of tax gains.
Godse (2022)
Godse
I am surprised the movie has been released in OTT within one month of the theatrical release. Good acting by K. Satyadev . Aishwarya dubbing in Telugu was pathetic. Her acting in the movie was also worse. But what I liked the best was how the movie defined the shell companies. I think no movie has ever described what are shell companies. The employment situation in our country is pathetic . It's needless to say . Many a times we must have read in the newspaper , post graduates applying for a peon job. And lakhs of aspirants applying for few 100 jobs which are way below their educational qualifications. In our country, educational qualification has no relation to the job that a graduate is doing and it's a very sorry state of affairs. The movie captured everything very well. Unemployment, frustration, red tapism in clearances of private companies almost everything that applies to the current scenario and guess what its rated 6.50 in IMDb while useless movies are rated very high in IMDb. It deserves a 7 put of 10. Nice and honest attempt by the director and good efforts put in by the entire team.
Janhit Mein Jaari (2022)
Little Umbrella
The film actually deserves a 7.50 out of 10. It's well directed. Nusrat as Manokamna did very well . She is chosen to act in unique scripts Janheet Me Jaari being one. Certain scenes are very good like how the actor says she would like to continue her job after marriage. She would be independent first in her life before getting married. She did door to door marketing in her initial days. I like the scene where Little Umbrella had sponsored condoms in a wrestling match. Hilarious scenes . She had excellent marketing skills but the movie took a good turn when Manokamna started creating awareness on unwanted pregnancies and abortions, need to use protection. Our country lacks awareness especially in the villages. By next year, India would be crossing China in population and would become the most populous country in the world. With limited resources like food and energy , it would create a strain on the country. Very good movie and should be promoted more.
Virata Parvam (2022)
Virata Parvam
The movie was damn slow , too slow to being with. It does not show why Rana Dagubatti became a naxal in the first place rather it focused on a love story between a commoner and a Naxalite. The Telugu film industry is always fixated on a topic the recent one being Naxalism . First it was Jalsa which showed Pawan Kalyan as former Naxalite who was reformed and the latest one being Acharya now this Virata Parvam. The girl after reading a few poems and articles on the injustice to the society falls in love with the writer. The story is wafer thin . Definitely not worth 8 out of 10. These ratings are being manipulated it seems as others also pointed out earlier. Highly manipulative ratings of IMDb. After watching the entire movie on Netflix, I did not feel like i am watching a 8 movie. It's good but definitely not worth getting an 8 out of 10 may be a 6.5 or 7. The hero after getting suspicious on Sai pallavi shoots her , how mundane. If he loved her, how could he shoot her?? Is this the story or another typical cliche seen in regular commerical movies. Then later on other comrades realise their mistake and it's too late . Ufff!!!!
Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (2022)
Rocketry- The Nambi Narayanan effect
One of the gem of the movies seen in the recent past. Mind blowing movie made by Madhavan and cast . Shah Rukh Khan was outstanding as an anchor to a show in his brief role. Madhavan was really great in portraying the character of the great scientist Nambi Narayanan. One scene i will never forget in my life , Simran , the veteran actor , going into depression and shouting on seeing her husband being released from 50 days of jail. That particular scene I felt goosebumps after a long long long time. What an effort made by the entire cast and crew of the movie. Kudos to the entire team which was involved in making this movie. The audience was left speechless and spell bounded after watching the movie . Very rarely do we get to see such an outstanding movie in the world of Hindi cinema.
Avatara Purusha: Part 1 (2022)
Avatar purusha
Very bad movie with vodoo magic and black magic . Acting of the lead actor was pathetic and ashika was casted to appease the crowds for her face value. Nothing in the movie and the director is planning to make a sequel which is utter waste of time. Who believes in black magic in this era of space travel.
Ante Sundharaniki (2022)
Ante Sundharaniki
Nani was awesome 👍, Rahul Ramakrishna in that short screen time literally lit the fire 🔥. Comedy was just too good and screenplay was best. There was not a single boring scene in the movie . Veteran Naresh acting as father of Nani acted really well and the main scene in the movie was given to Rohini, mother of the hero. The role of grand mother was well thought of . When we were young, our parents always used to say if one has to lie , then to cover up the lie , he/she has to tell one more lie and then to cover up the second lie , one needs to lie again leading to a vicious web of lies . The director tried to put this theory very subtly without the audience even realising the same. Of course the movie tried to address other social issues like inter caste marriage, believing horoscope blindly by most of the parents. The movie was a roller coaster ride with so many hilarious moments . To add to it it was meant for family audience too. The background music was just too good at some scenes. In every scene , the entire crew tried to do something different . The role of the kid playing with the trolley and kicking the bucket was so well written and directed. I really loved Rahul Ramakrishna scene explaining the impotency of the actor . A great job by entire cast and crew of the movie .
Major (2022)
Major
I had to hold back my tears at the end of the movie. So glad that finally movies are gradually shifting to content based instead of masala based movies with crass songs and dialogues. In fact i am all the more happy that Mahesh Babu decided to produce the movie. He gave up his life in the ghastly terror attack in Mumbai on November 26, 2008 and Adavi Shesh did an excellent job in portraying the character. The audience was clapping at the end of the movie. I felt like they should have made a series of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and should have released in OTT rather than a feature movie with 2 hours 30 minutes. They could have made two movies instead like Major Part I and Major Part II portraying how he fought during the Kargil War and his other operations during his short service in Indian Army. A truly inspiring movie and so glad to watch it in Telugu. Great acting by Adivi Sesh, Prakash Raj and Revathi . Superb direction.
