Expend4bles (2023)
This feels like a parody of the Expendables
This is one of the most terrible movies that I have ever seen this year. The editing is garbage and performances are even worse than YouTubers. For example, the first scene depicted a terrorist who wanted to kill some country's general. Without completing the action, the next scene immediately moved to sly and statham fighting over a ring and then switched back to the terrorist attack scene. There are many examples that show the film lacks of basic editing and storytelling skills. However, the worst part is the ending where they do a dumb twist that sly is faking his death to lure out the villain. How did he do that? He dragged an innocent man to the pilot seat so that the villain and the expendables thought the corpse was sly when the plane crashed. Excuse me, who is the bad guy now? They character assassinated basically everyone here. Lastly, Megan Fox cringes me to death with zero facial expression and bad dialogues.
Gran Turismo (2023)
David Harbour saved this insane boredom
I must say that I am shocked when this film even managed to get above 6 for rating. The pacing is slow and story structure is very generic. The racing scenes should be the highlights of the film, but the way director shot them make them look like promotional ads of cars that are shown before the film. However, I must give kudos to David Harbour, who plays a frustrated mech engineer that doesn't believe players can be real racers at the beginning but later change his minds after building a bond with the protagonist. Harbour's performance feels emotional and sincere compared to other actors who are just there for cheques. Anyway, go see this film if you are bored or something, but don't hold high expectations for it.
Le grand bleu (1988)
Critics are right about this film, boring and pointless.
Basically, the director spent nearly 3 hours telling us that your dream of diving under the ocean worth more than your lover and your life. The pacing is so slow that it makes documentaries look like John Wick movies. I download this film expecting it to be as emotional as cinema paradise and a beautiful life, but I clearly hold too high expectations for it. Anyway, the only good thing about this film is Jean Reno, who was excellent in playing Enzo. If you don't believe what I said, you are welcome to watch this film yourself, but don't go with the 3-hour version since it is no different from the theatrical release.
Heojil kyolshim (2022)
Phantom Thread but it takes place in South Korea
I don't get why this film scores higher than Park's old boy and the handmaiden. The cinematography is the only outstanding thing in this film. The story is not complicated and deep enough to fit into the 2 hour and a half timeframe. The twisted love seems similar to Phantom Thread, but that film has better screenplay and performance than this one.
Memory (2022)
Ageing 007 who has memory loss issues played by Liam Neeson
I must show my respect to Liam Neeson, who is in his late 60s and still insists on shooting action films. The entire film of memory is basically a tribute to the past films of the main cast. For example, when Liam threatened Guy though the phone, that one was clearly from Taken. Not to mention the scene where Liam had to write down the addresses or events on his arm, which reminds us of Memento. The pace of this film could've been faster since both the concept and main cast are amazing. The film is enjoyable if you are watching it on Steaming website, but not to worthwhile at the theatre.
Men (2022)
Most disturbing experience of 2022
I don't know what's wrong with this director. He used to direct some deep and stylish movies like Ex Machina or Dredd, but now he is obsessed with all those implicit stuff like signs and symbols in a movie. The fact that this film depicts men as demons is both ridiculous and nonsensical at the same time. The pace is so slow that you can take a dump in the restroom for 15 mins without missing anything. I initially thought this was a dark comedy or some sort. Don't waste money and time on this one.
tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Low-budget La La Land
I have to give kudos to Andrew Garfield for his performance in this film, but that's all. I couldn't find anything outstanding in this film since the story was generic and the songs weren't as emotional as the ones in La La Land.
Tenet (2020)
The time inversion part is so stunning, but the story is very confusing.
Nolan seems to get some ideas from Steins;Gate, which is an anime that also talks about alternative timelines and prevents future warfares.
