Mou mou (2024)
The On1y One For Me
This BL series from Taiwan tells a story about two high school boys who became step brothers through their single parents relationship. And since it's about teenagers, it sure revolves around the school grounds. So for those who doesn't like school themed stories, let this be your warning. Jiang Tian is a cold, rigid and super smart high school student. He's always been alone his whole life, until one day, came along Sheng Wang, the warm, funny and cheerful boy. Aside from the main couple, there is a side couple in this series. It is more about high school life, education, friendship and family bond than about BL. But there's one scene which is R rated, so to those who doesn't like man on man sex scenes, don't watch this series. Aside from its beautiful story telling, touching drama, solid acting and plot, I'm still a little disappointed with it. Because there's no resolution to both couple's relationship. And the ending left the audience hanging. I sure hope that it's a sign for a second season of this beautiful story. The pressure is on!
The Time of Fever (2024)
The Time Of Passion
This is a spin-off prequel of Unintentional Love Story about Ho Tae & Dong Hee's past. It's telling the audience what happened between them before the events in Unintentional Love Story happened, about the struggle that the two went through. It's a bitter sweet story compared to Unintentional Love Story. I didn't think that it can be better than its predecessor, but as it turns out, I was wrong. Well, not exactly better, just a different kind of good. If Unintentional Love Story is romantic and sweet, then The Time of Fever is passionate. There's just one thing that I don't like. They kinda diminished Ho Tae's struggle with his sexuality when he realized that he likes Dong Hee. In the comic, Ho Tae's reaction was pretty bad. But in this mini series, he didn't had any significant conflict with Dong Hee because of this. And they also didn't actually show what Dong Hee's father did to him. I was kinda hoping to see the abuse that he received from his father. Because even if it's painful to watch, it's crucial to the plot. Maybe they don't wanna make this mini series too long. Too bad.
Sebastian (2024)
Dum Dum
It's a drama about a young aspiring writer, who moonlights as an escort in order to get the best kind of materials for his book. If you're asking about the movie, then I'll have to say that it's a pretty solid drama. The main actor delivered a strong performance, just like the rest of the actors and actresses. But if you're asking me about the story itself, I gotta say that it's pretty stupid. The main character is a dumb young adult who couldn't prioritize his life. He got swayed by the appeal of his side career so easily, that at one point it finally ruined his main career. So after finally the crap hits the fan, I kinda have zero sympathy for him. Cause he had it coming.
Don't Move (2024)
Don't Survive
This psychological thriller started out as a drama. Iris, who just lost her son, had a dark thought and about to take her own way when a stranger stopped her just at the nick of the time. He talked her out of it. Things starting to look up, or so the audience thought. Who knew that the stranger kept her from doing the unthinkable not for the reason you thought of. Cause as it turned out, the stranger only saved her to do it himself. If you're someone who doesn't like survival psychological thriller and horror, you'll abhor this movie. But if you do like survival movies, then you'll love it. The acting was top notch! As always, Finn Wittrock played very well as a deranged serial killer. He was amazing in American Horror Story and he's still doing great in this movie.
Alien: Romulus (2024)
Alien : What Now?!
The setting of this new Alien movie is in space, so that reminds the audience of the very first movie. Where humans first fought the deadly race of alien. The main character of this movie is uninteresting enough to make the audience root for her. I guess it's the script writer's fault, not the actress. She's done her best with what's given to her. The plot is still the same : an unsuspecting human fell victim to the larvae form of the Aliens, their chest burst giving birth to the baby Xenomorph, then it grew exponentially fast, making itself a new threat to everyone on the ship. There's something new that sets this movie apart than its predecessors, though. You'll see it near the end of the movie. All I can tell you that it's messed up and freaky! Be prepared to get grossed out!
The Wild Robot (2024)
The Mother
A ship full of assistant robots caught in a typhoon and one of the robots survived. It's awakened in the middle of the forest and studied the animals language to be able to communicate with them. After accidentally witnessing an egg hatching, it became the involuntary mother of the baby goose. It's naturally given the task to help the baby goose grow and survive until he can find the place where he belongs.
This is a heartwarming and touching movie for all ages. It's a perfect film to watch with your family and friends. I was skeptical when I came across this title, but now I'm so glad that I gave it a shot. This could be the best animation movie of this year!
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Nicepool & The Cavillrine
You'd understand my review title if you watched this movie. This third installment of Deadpool franchise is an absolute shocker and nostalgic film. At least to those who love the X-Men franchise and other Marvel movies such as Daredevil, Elektra and Fantastic Four. You'll get to see old characters with their original casts. It's a cameo galore! Oh, the nostalgia! So lovely and melancholic! The supervillain in this movie is still related to X-Men plot, in a sense. So technically, this movie is also an X-Men franchise. And just like the first and second Deadpool movie, this movie is filled with Ryan Reynold's dark, witty and inappropriate dirty jokes. The main ingredient that people love about this franchise.
The Killer's Game (2024)
The Misdiagnosed Game
I gotta be honest, I think that this assassin movie is a little silly. Why didn't Joe get a second opinion after he was diagnosed with a terminal illness? Everybody does it, why didn't he? Anyway, aside from the silly roots of this movie, the action was good. A lot of famous stars sprinkled their magic in this movie. Dave Bautista, Ben Kingsley, Pom Klementieff, Terry Crews, and Scott Adkins gave their best in this action-romance-comedy-thriller. And for those who hate the thriller part, don't worry. There's only a little portion of that in this movie. Mostly there's only action, comedy and romance. It's a light watch, if you can stomach seeing body parts splattered across the room, that is. I mean, it is a movie about assassins. So of course there's some blood and gore.
Die Alone (2024)
Twisted Version of The Last Of Us
Plant based zombie isn't a new thing anymore, not since they made The Last Of Us. But I'm not gonna use the myopic glasses to view this movie. Just because it's been done, doesn't mean that it's plagiarism. There are huge differences between this type of zombie and the type of zombies in The Last Of Us. For one thing, it doesn't start with fungus. And in this movie, if you fed on human flesh, you regained your memories for a period of time. I have to admit that this twist is very creative. And the application of that new rule on this movie is very interesting. Although I managed to guess the plot twist half way through the movie, I was still hooked by the story. This is a decent horror thriller romance. Yes, you read that right, romance. Carrie Ann Moss is an amazing actress, she's perfect for this movie.
Strange Darling (2023)
Messed Up Darling
This thriller went back and forth waaaay too much! Personally I don't like watching those kind of movies, that's why I'm gonna have to deduct 1 star from my initial rating. I mean, I get that the plot twist can only be seen later. That's why the movie went backward and forward. But they didn't have to do it that much! Although they made it very clear which chapter it was, it's still very annoying!
But aside from that, this thriller mystery is pretty good. The acting was marvelous, especially The Lady. She made the audience loves to abhor her. She's a character that you don't get to meet everyday. Thank God for that! LOL.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man (2024)
Hellboy : The Wrong Movie
For those who loves Hellboy franchise, you'll be very disappointed with this movie. I think that it's meant as a prequel of this franchise, which tells us Hellboy's origin story. But instead that, the movie is focusing more on the witches and demon. And it's turned this supposedly superhero movie into a horror movie. If you look at it as a horror movie, I guess it wouldn't have been deemed that bad. But as a superhero movie, it's really really bad. Cause basically it's got nothing to do with Hellboy, the main character of this movie. It feels like he's been thrown in just for an accessory. He's got no actual use in the plot, but to follow it like a damn sheep. It's like Hellboy's got thrown into a wrong movie by mistake. And not to mention the pathetic CGI! Even a seven year old can see that it's super fake. Maybe be because it's low budgeted. How dare they try to make a superhero movie without enough money? They deserve harsh ratings. I'm too generous for giving it 5 stars.
Azrael (2024)
Vengeance Will Be Hers
This horror movie is one of those which doesn't explain what or why or how the world ended the way that the movie tells the audience. All you need to know is that the story is about dystopian world, either post apocalyptic or not. The movie didn't provide any information or background story about the main character. So the audience is left to wonder about every last bit of thing about her. All you know is that she's being sacrificed by a group of zealots which is being led by a pregnant woman. A woman which is the main plot twist in this movie. I don't usually like dystopian movies, cause they're all so bleak and unbearable to watch. But in this case, it gave me something which I like a lot : revenge. Yes, the main character survived to the very end to exact her vengeance on the whole group. I just love revenge movies! That's why I added another star to my initial rating.
It Ends with Us (2024)
Girls, Be Brave And Strong!
This movie isn't about romance, just like how it is told in the book. It's about a woman who faced a complicated situation and needed to make a difficult choice. So for those who haven't read the book (like me), I just want to let you all know in advance.
The story telling is very soft and steady, I like it very much. The plot was straight forward with a little hidden secret. The movie was made pretty long out of necessity, it wasn't being dragged out at all. So there's no need to worry of getting bored watching it. The acting was very good, Blake delivered a strong performance. Just like the rest of cast members.
I don't know about the backlash that the writer of the book faced because of the casting choice. So it didn't affect my rating at all. Personally, I don't give a damn about those kind of stuff. When a movie is good, I would give good rating. No matter what other people said given the circumstances. Whether it's about the source of the movie, the casting choice, or maybe a scandal of any of the movie staff members were involved. IDGAF about those kind of stuff.
The Substance (2024)
Seven Deadly Sins Chapter 1 : Pride (vainglory)
To truly enjoy this movie, you mustn't think too hard about the science part of it. Cause if you do, you'd see how messy this movie is. You have to dumb yourself down and just watch. This movie is the perfect example of how pride can destroy your life, literally. Elisabeth Sparkle was an aging star who was about to be replaced by her producer. Not being able to overcome her sense of pride, she used The Substance. A miracle drug which can produce a younger and better version of oneself. At least physically. I think you can already guess how this plot will progress, but the process is interesting to watch. Or more precisely, horrifying to watch! It's like an actual nightmare came to life. The message in this movie is very good. And Demi Moore's acting was superb! She's still amazing after all this time!
Love Sea (2024)
You Must Love Me
I'm glad that Fort & Peat got their own BL series. Ever since their first performance in Love In The Air, everybody was saying that the secondary couple (Fort-Peat) was overshadowing the main couple in terms of story and chemistry. But I must say, I'm a little disappointed to find out that this series couldn't hold a candle to Love In The Air. TBH compared to its predecessor, Love Sea is pretty much boring. The first episode is the introduction of the main characters, but it's so dull and uneventful. And the biggest conflict that they ever had throughout the whole series was the MC's Dads lame antics. So weak, compared to Love In The Air. And to make things worse, the secondary couple in this series had zero chemistry. I don't mind seeing some GL, but I need a couple with good chemistry. Not just two good looking girls shoved against each other and slapped "lesbian" label on their forehead. Bottomline, this series is a let down for me. Especially after all the hype that was made about it. If you don't believe me, watch it yourselves and compare it to Love In The Air.
This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans (2024)
This Love Has All The BL Nutrients You Need
I might be biased in reviewing this series, because it incorporated two of my favorite couple in Pit Babe series, Sailub-Pon and Benz-Garfield. But that doesn't necessarily mean that what I'm going to write is not true. This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans doesn't beat around the bush and gets straight to the point, that's why it only consists of 8 episodes. You won't get bored watching it cause there are no unnecessary long scenes. Everything they put up in every episodes are essential to the plot. Every conflict that occurred are simple & logical, no complicated bull crap like in some cheap soap operas where the conflicts were made unresolved for too long just for the sake of stretching the number of episodes. The acting was decent for most actors, especially the main couple. I'm so glad that they gave Sailub-Pon the main couple position in this series. If you've watched Pit Babe, you'd know that they have this strong chemistry going on. I'm also ecstatic that they decided to give Benz-Garfield the second couple position, since they never had anything going in Pit Babe. And boy, they do deserve it!
My Love Mix-Up! (2024)
My Love Mixed Reaction
This Thai adaptation of Kieta Hatsukoi gave mixed feelings. There are some things that I like and the others made me wanna stick a pen to my eye.
Let's start with the good stuff first. I like how they added Atom's heroism when Kongthap got bitten by a snake. Although in the end they found out that the snake isn't poisonous, but Atom overcoming his fear to save Kongthap is a solid proof of how much he likes Kongthap. I also like how they added some parents-children drama. They also added the pre-college part, which made it more realistic.
But there's also bad stuff which irked me. Like how there's so many shameless product placements. They should really learn how to blend them into the movie better. They also made Atom replaced Mudmee's role in the school play so suddenly. It doesn't make any sense, cause Atom wasn't even the understudy. How could he know all the dialogs? In Kietai Hatsukoi, Aoki saw that Hashimoto was troubled when she was asked to take on the Cinderella role. So he volunteered to ease her burden. And then they also replaced the awfully judgmental teacher with a super sweet and supportive teacher which turns out to be gay. They just removed more conflicts in the plot by doing that. And it made the story more boring.
Over all, I think that this adaptation of Kietai Hatsukoi is not that bad, but at the same time, it couldn't exceed the original version. If it weren't for the existing ship of Fouth & Gemini, this adaptation would've flopped big time.
We Are (2024)
We Are... A Bunch Of Infatuated College Students
This BL series revolves around a campus, because it's about a group of college students who later develop feelings for one another. There are 4 couples in this series : PheemPhum, ThaenFang, QToey & ShanePun. PheemPhum started as enemies and slowly turned into lovers. ThaenFang started as enemies, then into friends, then into lovers. QToey is the classic senior-junior relationship. And the last one (literally the last one to bloom), ShanePun is the bestie turned lovers couple. The plot is very predictable with so little (to none) conflicts. No real life problems can be found in this series, which is very unrealistic if you ask me. I think that this series can be made way shorter, like 12 to 13 episodes. Some episode were unnecessarily added just to stretch the plot. Aside of that fact, I think that this series is okay. If you like the nauseatingly sweet PDAs, that is. Cause as soon as they became lovers, those couples turned so cheesy, clingy, and obsessed with PDAs.
Skincare (2024)
Skin-mess
This crime thriller tells a story about a smart but stupid business woman. She's smart about business, but stupid about her social life. She didn't have any idea who to trust and unfortunately took the wrong person to do so. There's a little bit of mystery in the first half of the film, but the answer came soon after. There wasn't any plot twists. If you could see who's the sketchy one, you'd be able to predict who's the main perpetrator before the answer was even shown. I feel like for a thriller, there's not enough thrill in this movie. I only got mild thrills and chills from it. So if you're hoping to get a good scare by watching this, you'd be disappointed. But acting-wise, it was pretty good from most actors. Elizabeth Banks was brilliant, I've always liked her movies. So far, everything with her in it, is interesting to watch. Even when she's just the supporting actress.
Blink Twice (2024)
I Spit On Your Island
This psychological thriller / murder mystery is masked as a rom-com at the beginning of the movie. A broke girl met a handsome billionaire who fell for her and swept her off her feet. But then amidst the blissful fun, some weird things kept on happening. Then after almost halfway through the movie, the mystery started to unfold. There was indeed something wrong, very wrong. I mean, how could there not? Who would go on a vacation with a stranger? No matter how hot they are. But then again, Hollywood isn't famous for for their logic. The last part of this movie turned into a revenge movie, which I quite like. That's why I added another star from my initial rating.
Trap (2024)
Rat Trap
Well, this is certainly a new experience for me. I've never seen a crime thriller movie about serial killers from their point of view before. It's interesting to watch how he wriggled and squirmed as he tried to escape from the hands of the law. It's almost like it's trying to teach you on how to get away. There's certainly no mystery here, since the identity of the culprit is already revealed from the beginning of the movie. And although the first half of the movie went by without any significant suspense, the other half was full of it. Josh Hartnett's acting was superb. On the other hand, Saleka Shyamalan wasn't great. I saw some room for improvement there.
Inside Out 2 (2024)
Inside Out Chapter 2 : Adolescent
This continuation of Inside Out is still great, like the first movie. Although I didn't feel the same rush as I did when I watched the first movie. Maybe because it's the first time, and this isn't. Oh, well. On to the review. The problem in this next installment of Inside Out would be the new emotions that came with adolescent. And Anxiety is the head of the new gang. She's the main problem of this movie. It reminds me of how bad it got me when I was a teenager. Just like the first movie, this one applies psychological terms into corporeal forms. I love it! I wanted to give it 9 stars, but then I remembered that they just chucked the puberty part out of the movie like it didn't have any effects on Riley's mind. How could they? Puberty does a number on teenagers minds! How could've they tossed it aside?! Where's the consequences of Joy throwing that out? They didn't even show anything about puberty in this movie. That's why I decided to deduct 1 star. Maybe they're saving it for the next movie? I don't know. All I know is that it's not good to just forget stuff like that, especially the big ones.
Subservience (2024)
Auto-Dominance
This sci-fi thriller is about artificial intelligence gone wrong. Again. Because Terminator series isn't enough. People love horrors and thrillers about robots went haywire and killing people. I guess that's why some people don't find this movie interesting. I, on the other hand, won't pass a decent movie just because it's been done before. This one is about a man who hired an artificial servant who's obligated to fulfill her primary user needs. Meet Alice (Megan Fox), the sim (that's how they call a robot in this movie) who went to great lengths to provide the best care for Nick (Michele Morrone). Which didn't excluding doing immoral things such as adultery and illegal actions such as mass murder. The first half of the movie will seem like a good adult movie when you watch it. And the rest will turn into a decent thriller. If you ignore the illogical plot of this sci-fi thriller (how a gigantic A. I. corporation didn't put a fail safe to contain their product failure), you'll be pretty satisfied with this movie. Otherwise, you'll be one of those viewers who condemned this movie with rating below 5 stars. Don't be a jerk. This is just an entertainment. Not everything has to be rocket science. Sometimes you just want to watch a good movie. Kick back and relax, don't strain your brains all the time with too much thinking. Save it for your jobs, not your source of entertainment.
Longlegs (2024)
The Devil's Accomplice
This is a slow-burn psychological horror movie. Which is very boring, at least for me. But if you can handle the boredom of almost nothing scary happening the first 60 minutes, then this movie is for you. I didn't really like it, since nothing actually scary ever happened in the movie. There's only creepy and disturbing things. Before I knew what the movie really is about, I thought that the victims were all nutjobs. But now that I knew what happened in the movie, I gotta ask, "That's all?!" This is one of those movies where the bad guy wins. So, just prepare for that. Oh, and another thing. Prepare for Nick Cage's make up and prosthetics. He looked like Kaitlyn Jenner! Geez! I honestly think that that's the real horror of this movie! Imagine staring at Kaitlyn Jenner's face for more than a minute! Disturbing! Highly disturbing! I need to rinse my eyes now! Where's my eye cleanser?
The Present (2024)
The Messed Up Time Loop
This is a comedic family drama fantasy about a couple with 3 kids who are on the verge of their separation. With the help of the old magical grandfather clock, their kids trying to stop their parents from separating. The movie showed the story from many points of view. Every time they rewind the day, it started from somebody else's point of view. And it gave the audience a chance to understand and relate to all of the family members. This is a funny, touching and beautiful family movie. I recommend this one to watch with your family. The acting is decent, the story is good, and it has a decent ending.
