Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin (2022)
Impressed
Ludicrously simplistic review, but it's crazy how quiet this show is - in the best possible way. Nowadays, shows are whispers mixed with eardrum-bursting music but this show keeps it balanced. I LOVE it. Great actors, thrilling plots, very unsnowflakey. Good, good, good!
Night Sky (2022)
Slow start, but eventually captivating
I agree with people complaining that it has a slow, slow start. I considered giving up after two episodes, but I'm glad I didn't. I also skipped the very drawn-out and boring storyline with the Spanish actors... I realize they needed a dramatic ending, but it was just... mostly irrelevant. I mean, they might be creating a foundation for a season two, but I only wanted to know more about the elderly couple and Jude.
Dickinson (2019)
Music and dialogue balance
You can dislike this comment as much as you want, but... I actually liked the series, but I had to stop after the second episode for my own sanity because of the constant shift between quiet dialogue and eardrum-bursting music. I like the idea of having great modern music playing during the Dickinson-era, but the volume difference just had me clutching the remote in preparation. It's sad how a great series has, in my opinion, been ruined by this one single thing.
We Are Who We Are (2020)
Waste of time
I just finished watching this show, but I did not do it because I enjoyed it -- I just have to finish what I start. I'm weird like that. Speaking of weird... this show? I mean, if you enjoyed it, I'd compare you to a hipster pretending to know what the heck Picasso actually tried to communicate with his paintings. This show is unbelievably weird and unforgivably boring. I think you might have more fun watching paint dry. The actors are GREAT, but the plot... well, there's no discernible plot. Watching this show is like being a fly on the wall in the least entertaining household. Oh, and the ridiculously superfluous music stinks.
Utopia (2020)
Audio issues
I realize this isn't it the most constructive criticism, but am I the only one who finds this show near-unbearable to watch due to the volume fluctuations? It seems like the characters are whispering half the time and then, every few minutes or so, someone will scream, a car horn will toot, a gunshot will sound, loud music will blast, etc. I'm on episode four, and I haven't put down the remote once since I have to mute dozens of times every episode. It's exhausting. I'm sure it could be a decent show if it wasn't for this one, HUGE issue.
Ratched (2020)
Couldn't stop watching
Brilliant acting, great plot, awesome cinematography. I really recommend this to anyone who has enjoyed series made by Ryan Murphy - it's very similar. Everything in which Sarah Paulson is involved is simply brilliant. (Only warning I can give is that it is a bit gory at times. Apart from that, settle down and enjoy!)
Love, Victor (2020)
Lovely.
This series brought me so much joy. The storyline is very, very predictable, but somehow that doesn't matter since I didn't really start watching it to be surprised. I watched it to experience a roller-coaster of emotions, and the show did not disappoint me in that regard. Even though I wasn't surprised by a single thing that happened, I still admired the writing because, ostensibly, they had not included a single thing that was not somehow important later in the show, and that had me constantly analyzing everything that happened instead of being distracted by my phone or whatever else. Hoping for many more seasons (and many more shows like this)! Great job.
EDIT: I'm only three episodes in on season two, but I can already tell that they stepped things up (hence why I'm upping my rating from a nine to a ten.) I hate an unlikely fairytale love-story, and this isn't it. Ana Ortiz's acting is on point, and everyone needs a friend like Lake. Enjoy the binge, folks!
EDIT2: Finished. Mwah! Can't wait for season three.
Sweet Magnolias (2020)
Monotonous
The series is not bad, but it's not hard to tell that all of the dialogue was written by the same person. Everything is overly polite and monotonous. If it wasn't for the different faces, you'd think all of the acting was done by one person. This is not the actors' fault, but the writer's.
Blood & Water (2020)
Meh
Honestly, whoever was responsible for shooting the series did a GREAT job. However, the stroryline is predictable and the acting is horrible. Watch it if you want to waste time, but don't expect to get thoroughly entertained.
