Tell Your Children (1936)
Educative Warning About the Dangers of Marijuana
Reefer Madness illustrates the dangers of marijuana through the depiction of its effects on young students, and the tragic stories unfolding around its use. It serves as a poignant warning on this evil drug and tries to educate the children not to be lured into smoking marijuana, which leads to a path of self-destruction.
Some scenes, however, can be triggering for marijuana addicts. The depiction of lighting up a "reefer", and the subsequent uncontrollable giggles, can be hard for people struggling with marijuana addiction. I wish it could be more informative on the negative effects weed has on your brain, showing us how damaging cannabis is on your memory, concentration, or motivation.
I wish there were more films out there to warn us the dangers of marijuana so more people can learn the truth about it.
Rapunzel: A Princess Frozen in Time (2019)
Low quality amateur production
Low-budget, bad quality, amateur production. The filming is bad. The camera does not show what people want to actually see. For example, when an ingredient is added to the conical flask, the camera shows something completely irrelevant.
Bad acting. Bad filming. Bad amateur production.
Scooby-Doo (2002)
Wonderful Cast, Terrible Script
The cast of the live version of Scooby-Doo is wonderful. I love how they bear so much resemblance to the characters in the animated version. They really do bring the animated version to live.
However, the script for this movie is nothing like what you'd expect to see from any Scooby-Doo episode. It is plain senseless and full of crazy voodoo mumbo jumbo. The original Scooby-Doo series is somewhat logical, but this one screams a loud Wizards of Waverly Place tone. The movie fails to explain how the entire magic thing works, or at least it is done in a really poor way. None of the things in this movie makes any logical sense in real life.
I love Scooby-Doo, but I wish this movie had a better script.
Nothing Good Ever Happens (2016)
Low-Budget Amateur Film with Deep Highlight on Mental Health Issues
This is not one of the state-of-the-art high-quality Hollywood production films that you'd find flooding the cinemas nowadays. Instead, you can clearly tell from the shaky camera movements and cinematically unpolished scenes that this is a low-budget amateur production.
This film has brought valuable highlight on mental health issues. The subject of dealing with breakups in life might seem simple, but this film manages to bring out an extraordinary story out of the simple life event.
Josh Miller, who plays the protagonist Neil in this film, is very attractive. To be honest, I only started watching this because of the irresistible cover photo featuring his cute face. However, I also somehow find him way too distractingly hot to make his role relatable in this particular scenario.
I do want to criticize, however, the gratuitous nudity in this film. The showing of boobs in this film is unnecessary and it occurs several times throughout this film, even at the very beginning of it.
Overall, a good watch for young people who is either going through a breakup or has been through one. You will be able to relate to it.
Good Sam (2019)
Good Acting, Interesting Plot, with Clichéd Moral Platitudes
It is the clichéd moral of the story: Be a good person. Paying it forward. Doing good to others and expecting nothing in return. It is the same moral platitudes we've all heard of since we were a little kid. This film delivers exactly just that, the trite moral lessons that exist in every religion.
The actress Tiya Sircar's performance in this film is stunning though. She brought alive the image of a cynical news reporter who does not believe in the good deeds of others. Her role in this film is exceedingly relatable, and makes the story more engaging, and makes the moral lessons seem less trite.
Overall, the acting in this film is good. The plot is interesting enough (though somewhat predictable). The moral lessons are a bit cliché. However, this is overall a good watch. 7 Stars!
Love Island (2015)
Addictive Piece of Junk
I can understand why this show appeals to the younger generation because it feeds to their hedonistic pursuit. Good-looking civilians wearing skimpy clothes on a beach. Steamy and stimulating. This is why porn sites nowadays generate more traffic than Netflix.
I don't blame people who enjoyed watching this.
12 Deadly Days (2016)
Fun to Watch and Very Addictive
I watched the 12 episodes in one go and kept wanting more.
This show is super fun to watch, the plot is very well written, well thought out. Even though each episode has a relatively separate storyline, all the stories are well constructed together. This is like a horror/comedy version of Black Mirror.
I am especially in love with the Coffee Cups episode. The premise of this is genius! It could be made into an entire TV show all by itself. I also like the fact that each episode is very short, so that it doesn't get boring, but I wish there would be more to the Coffee Cups episode!
I hope the 2nd season is coming!
Carrie (2013)
Great Looking Cast, High Budget, But Nothing New
I watched this remake before watching the 1976 original Carrie. This remake has got great cast, but other than other, it has nothing new. A pure rip-off of the classic 1976 film. It is the exact same story, and it even repeats the exact same lines as in the original, but the story is not nearly as nicely portrayed as in the original one.
I am especially not happy with Carrie's mom's role in this remake. In the original 1976 film, Carrie's mom seemed to be this nice (yet religious) woman that most people can relate to. However, in this remake, Carrie's mom just seems like a complete religious nutshell that does not have any human touch to her. She does not seem as real.
I strongly recommend the 1976 original one, which is a lot better than this one.
Bird Box (2018)
Good Beginning, Rushed End, No Substance.
The beginning was fairly intriguing and very suspenseful. It makes the viewer wonder what is going on and want to keep watching to find out. As the plot develops, it just gets very slow and boring. There are many things in this film that don't make sense and they are not even explained at all throughout the entire film. As the viewers waiting for the big reveal, the ending is just disappointing. There is basically no reveal whatsoever.
