About us
The U.S. Global Water Strategy envisions a water-secure world, where people and nations have the water they need to be healthy, prosperous, stable, and resilient. USAID helps partner countries plan, finance, and deliver safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services for the neediest, while sustainably managing water resources. Global Waters is hosted by the USAID Center for Water Security, Sanitation and Hygiene in the Bureau for Resilience, Environment, and Food Security, with support from the Global Waters Communication and Knowledge Management II Activity. Global Waters seeks to provide cutting edge information on the water security, sanitation and hygiene sectors, including resources from both USAID and other stakeholders. This December, we are celebrating a decade of USAID #WASH investments’ in honor of the 10th anniversary of Senator Paul Simon’s Water for the World (WftW) Act. Today, we are spotlighting USAID’s long-term commitment to partnerships and its transformative effect improving water and sanitation access in #Kenya. Two years after the passage of the WftW Act, Kenya’s government signed its own landmark legislation into law. To support this mandate, USAID partnered with local governments in eight counties to establish new water service providers and guide the transition from community-based to professional management of water services. ✨NEW: Many people with disabilities (#PWD) have to structure their lives on when they will have access to an accessible toilet, and are less likely to live in a household with adequate hygiene and sanitation facilities. Disability-disaggregated #data is critical to providing more accessible #WASH services. In recognition of the recent International Day of Persons with Disabilities (#IDPwD2024), this article discusses the importance of collecting and using disability-disaggregated data to understand and inform #WASH programming. It also spotlights several USAID WASH activities from #Bangladesh, #Nepal, #Pakistan and more that are advancing #PWD support. https://lnkd.in/ecnVjGgm
