We can't wait to see you on Rocky Top in Knoxville this summer for NASPA's Mid-Managers Institute. 

What an incredible year 2024 has been on Rocky Top! From a national championship and the College Football Playoffs to record student success and unprecedented research, we have achieved new heights together. Our faculty experts are developing the playing surfaces for the 2026 FIFA World Cup—the largest and most-watched sporting event in the world. We are continuing to expand opportunities to more Tennesseans through our digital learning initiative with Arizona State University. We celebrated our largest enrollment and our best graduation rates ever this fall. And of course, our athletics department continues to win on and off the field. In addition to a top-three finish in the Learfield Director’s Cup, our athletes posted their best two semesters in the classroom with record GPAs. What an incredible time to be a Volunteer. We couldn’t do it without the hard work of our students, faculty, and staff or the support of our alumni and friends around the state and beyond. Thank you, everyone, for giving your all to Tennessee. I can’t wait to see what we do together in 2025.

As 2024 comes to an end, we are so grateful for the incredible work happening on the University of Tennessee campus. Student Life staff are unwavering in their dedication to the Volunteer experience, creating opportunities for students to learn, lead, and serve. Our work is recognized by industry leaders and professional organizations, and it can only be achieved with the support of the vice chancellor for student life, Frank Cuevas. Recognized as a 2025 NASPA Pillar of the Profession, Cuevas’ outstanding leadership, dedication, and tireless service positions UT as a destination for the next generation of student affairs professionals, both as students and practitioners. We said “see you next semester” to 180 students from Middle and West Tennessee this morning that are traveling home with our “UT to West TN” initiative. The growth in this program has been tremendous. Thanks to Blake Weiss and his team for making it happen and making sure students can have an affordable and accessible way to make it home for break. The Center for Basic Needs connects students facing basic needs insecurity to resources that help get those needs met. In turn, this basic needs access is supporting student retention at UT. As an institution, the university is experiencing record retention of 92%, and the center's efforts are part of that. With resources like the Big Orange Pantry, students are able to spend more time focusing on their studies, prompting a higher retention rate for students who utilize these services compared to students who do not. https://bit.ly/4fjyTcJ
