#Doyouknow what the accuracy of an electromechanical actuator is? For the actuator itself, that is easy. There is the mechanical lead accuracy of the screw, which is usually 0.001 in/ft, a typical specification for precision positioning screws of any type. That means that at any point over the cumulative length of the screw, the lead will vary by a maximum of 0.001 inches per foot of screw length. It is not the same as mechanical repeatability. Mechanical repeatability is a tolerance on how close to the same linear position the screw will return, if approaching from the same direction, and driven exactly the same number of turns. Dreamworks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions’ use Exlar Actuators to power the Dragon wings in Shrek the Musical. The rigidity of the rig and its hexapod geometry provide enough stability for the dragon’s internal rotation mechanism to rotate accurately, providing a smooth, dynamic flight with the wings controlled internally by Exlar Tritex actuators. #Doyouknow how to lengthen the life of your actuator? Because roller screws have numerous contact points versus ball screws, the life of the actuators lengthen substantially. However, many things will affect the length of life for a roller screw. Here are some tips to increase roller screw life: Eliminate/mitigate side load/misalignment, reduce (or ideally, eliminate) hard impacts/shock loads, no end crashing, or hard stops. Bumpers are there for accidents only (use nice and controlled deceleration), switch up the portion of the screw being used for press applications (evenly distribute the wear), make sure wear parts are replaced as necessary (front seal bushings and other seals/O-rings etc.).
