michelle | backyard farm & garden on Instagram: "It’s mason bee season! 🐝 If you’ve been following for a while, you know that every Spring I order mason bees from @crown_bees for my little backyard orchard. I love mason bees for my backyard for a few reasons: 🌸 they’re super pollinators: 1 mason bee can do the pollinating work of 100 honey bees 🌸 they don’t travel far, staying within a 300 yard radius, so they’ll work within a backyard garden 🌸 they are gentle, rarely sting, and I find that they love to people watch! 🌸 they don’t produce honey, so there’s no work involved, just place them in their home and watch them do their work 🌸 they’re solitary bees that are native to North America (local ladies!) What do you think? Will you get mason bees? 👩🏼‍🌾🐝 Check out Crown Bees web

Fill with rocks and/or sticks for them to safely land without fear of drowning. Top it up every day and give it a clean once a week 🐝💚 #beebath #forthebees #pollinatorgarden #beegarden #flowerpatch"

Evan Lorenzen on Instagram: "Bee hotels are a great way to help support native solitary bee populations, so I made my own simple version and created some fun signage using @adobe Illustrator. Solitary bees, like these leaf cutter bees, do not form a hive with a queen like honey bees do, but rather, they live alone in separate nests. In the United States, solitary bees make up around 98% of the native bee species. After numerous hours of researching leaf-cutter bees, I learned that the problem with most bee hotels is that having a high density of solitary bees concentrated in one spot can often lead to diseases being spread more easily among the bees living there. To help make things more sanitary for these bees, I only added a few holes to help prevent overcrowding. I also lined each nest
Simon Akeroyd on Instagram: "Simple and free way to create a raised bed. Couldn’t be easier. Pallets are easy to get hold of and are usually free. Use heat treated pallets (look for HT logos or similar on the pallet) as opposed to ones treated with wood preservative. They are ideal for planting strawberries or sowing types of salad leaves, mini beetroot leaves, rocket, radishes, herbs and so much more #nodiggardening #nodig #gardening #growyourown #vegetablegardeningforbeginners #vegetablegardening"
