In Greek mythology, Iris linked the gods to humanity. I always think of this when I make irises, it’s become a part of this flower’s symbolism for me. Iris is a messenger god, like Hermes. She would travel from earth to the over and under worlds of the gods, bearing our prayers and pleads, advocating for us or sometimes granting our requests herself, if she could.
