A flower in full bloom
does not want to be a mango.
A fish dancing in the water
does not want to become an elephant.
A tiger in his majesty and strength
does not want to become a lion.
But we humans find ourselves
always falling in the dream of another life.
We secretly aspire to the fortune
or fame of people we don't really know.
When feeling badly about ourselves,
we often try on other skins
rather than understand
and care for our own.
Every weed and ant and every rabbit
has its unique anatomy
and they don't dreamabout
being another creature in nature.
The universe reveals its abundance
most clearly when we can be who we are.
Reminds me of the song by Talking Heads in which the singer wakes up to find that he's living someone else's life. Is he really any happier? No! True happiness comes from within. As you have so masterfully illustrated in this excellent poem. Tony, thank you for the vivid imagery and your wise words. Always a joy reading your poetry!
A flower in full bloom does not want to be a mango. A fish dancing in the water does not want to become an elephant. The imagary in this piece is brillant, if only we could walk in anothers man shoes for the day I'm sure we would be more gracous towards others. Annette

An amazing poem which reveals the very human nature of being dissatisfied with what we have..we always compare with others and want to be like them only.....loved your lines...thanks for sharing...
