Lonely Road I Travel Down Poem by Kelly Boutin

Lonely Road I Travel Down

It's a lonely road I travel down
I walk the stones without a sound
So quiet that I learned this song
It's all I know anymore

It's a lovely world I have to say
But I just don't love anything
It's a lonely place in my mind
It's a lonely way of life
It's a lonely room so cold and dark
It's a lonely place I walk
It's a lonely train of thought

It's a lonely road I travel down
Still so close to the ground
Still so far from the sky
Still so dark, I close my eyes

Still so close to the sand
Still so far from the waves
Still so far from what I need
It's a lonely place to be
It's a lonely race I run in vain
It's a lonely place I'm running from
It's a lonely road that I see
Walking now there is just me
Waking alone ever day
Beside this same distant place
Everything feels out out of reach
No safe place to hide
From myself, from my life
I live to get older
I walk to get nowhere
I wake to get tired
I sleep to get better
I get worse every day
Get closer to some big emptiness
I can only feel
Feel less every day
Till nothing seems right
Still taking this well
Still trying to not feel
Nothing is real

It's a lonely road I travel down
I walk the stones without a sound
So quiet that I learned this song
