Never Stop Believing Poem by Jim Yerman

Never Stop Believing

A family purchased Peter Pan in the bookstore the other day…
and when it was time for them to go
I found myself smiling as I was reminded of a time…not so long ago.

Peter Pan was one of our grandson's favorite books…
I haven't thought about it in years…
How it was filled with pirates, adventure…with joy, laughter and tears.

It took place in a far away place…where all adults were banned…
for only children were allowed to live in Neverland.

We read how life is an awfully great adventure…about reaching for the sky.
about never growing up..and about a young boy who could fly.

It's a story about believing…in what you say and do…
because as Peter said…if you believe hard enough…your wishes will come true.

Because who wants to grow up to find out…
wishing doesn't make every dream come true
there's wars, cancer, Alzheimer's and ALS…just to name a few.

Family and friends who we've lost to them…
Who, even though we hoped that they would stay…
despite our prayers and wishes…they all have passed away.

But the book is a reminder to never stop believing..
in what we say and do
because we never know the moment…when one wish will come true.

Like some of my favorite memories…it's visit was unplanned
of the days I use to read to my grandson…about the boy from Neverland.
