Schools Educational Goals

Homebush West Public is a Centre for Excellence and has established targets that focus on promoting and developing quality teaching practices within classrooms to improve student outcomes. Within the school plan, one of the focus areas is to develop strong mentoring programs to support all teachers at every stage of their career. The focus on quality teaching includes a focus on ensuring teachers effectively embed 21st century teaching tools into teaching and learning programs and enhance and equip students with 21st century skills.

Communication:
As a Peer Coaching team, we have devised the following plan to effective communicate to prinicpal/s and staff. 1. Discuss peer caoching plan with school principal- timetabling in opportunities 2. Presenting at a school afternoon TPL session and sharing our experiences from the Peer Coaching Training. Sharing our Puppet Pals clip to teachers about what peer coaching is, why it is important and how it will be rolled out at HWPS. 3. Work with other peer coaches within our community of schools to discuss progress and share ideas. 4. Presenting our journey as Peer Coaches at the end of year combined schools staff development day. Aligning Professional Development Strategies: Fits with C4E plan on promoting quality teaching practices by mentoring teachers. Peer coaching offers a structured and effective way to mentor teachers and encourage them to be reflective of their teaching practices. Peer Coaching fits in strategically with HWPS professional learning strategies. HWPS is a school with over 50% of the teachers in their first 3 years of teaching service. Peer Coaching acts as a valuable way to support these teachers in improving their own teaching practice to ensure that they are meeting the targets outlined in the school plan, considering their own teaching practice and improving the learning outcomes of the students in their classes. Peer Coaching allows for teachers to carefully consider the needs of the students in their class, to allow for the best improvement strategies to be put into place.
