Styles of Theatre

Four Performance Forms of Theatre: Drama: Straight plays, and plays with some type of singing or music in them. Musical Theatre: Stories with song and dance combined with drama. Audio/Visual Performance: Dance/Music Concerts. By nature, those are both audial and visual. Story is not so important to these things, as often there is no overall plot. Industrial: Steve Jobs-esque Performance for Company/Industry Meetings. Lots of money available in jobs like this.

Architectural Forms of Theatre: Proscenium Theatre: Proscenium arch acts like a picture frame, to which the audience is looking in. The arch acts like the 4th wall in many cases. Thrust: Audience on 3 sides. Stage is thrust out between them, jutting out. Arena: Audience on all four sides (aka Theatre In the Round). Boxing Ring. Black Box: Big empty room (sometimes gymnasium) and can build various things in it. You can make a runway stage, and the audience is not necessary. Amphitheater: Unique outdoor experience. Found-Space: Inside or out. You find a space that fits the scenery of the show being performed, and it adds realism to the plot.
