AP-1X and AP-2X CHASSIS DEAD SET FLOW CHART

YES

DOES RELAY CLICK?

CHECK 150V ON DRAIN OF Q902. CHECK HOT GROUND ON SOURCE OF Q902. IF HOT GROUND MISSING, R912 OPEN. IF R912 OPEN, REPLACE Q902 & CHECK ZD904

NO

CHECK A12V REGULATOR Q0009 CHECK A5V REGULATOR Q0011 CHECK RELAY DRIVER Q0001

THE SET IS STILL DEAD

Yes

IF NO, THIS MAY MEAN Q903 IS TURNED ON OR R910 IS OPEN

CHECK PIN 8 OF IC901 FOR 15V

OK

NO

GO TO DEAD POWER SUPPLY FLOW CHART On Next Page

CHECK PIN 9 OF IC901 FOR 4.5V OR HIGHER

Yes

NO

R911 OPEN, Q902 SHORTED GATE TO SOURCE. IC901 DEFECTIVE

IF ALL ABOVE CRITERIA HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED, THE POWER SUPPLY SHOULD BE RUNNING NOW.

AP-1X and AP-2X CHASSIS DEAD POWER SUPPLY FLOW CHART

THE DEAD SET FLOW CHART SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETED BEFORE USING THIS FLOW CHART

PULL THE 130V FUSE. REMOVE Q902. SCOPE PIN 10 OF IC901 FOR 5VP/P DRIVE WAVE FORM AT PIN 10, REQUIRES R911 B+ SOURCE RESISTOR TO BE OK. IF NO, CHECK PIN 5 FOR OSCILLATION. IF NO CHECK R922 & C924 REPLACE IC901

NO DRIVE

NO OSC.

IC901 MAY BE IN 100% DEAD TIME. CHECK Q908 , SHOULD BE IN OFF STATE, MAY BE SHORTED. ALSO, CHECK IC903 PIN 3 = <2.1V. IF >2.1V, GO TO POWER SUPPLY IN SHUT DOWN PROTECTION FLOW CHART. See Next Page
DRIVE YES

IF ALL IS OK, RE-INSTALL Q902 WITH A KNOWN GOOD ONE, POWER SUPPLY SHOULD BE RUNNING NOW. CHECK 130V. IF OK, RE-INSTALL 130V FUSE. IF POWER SUPPLY SHUTS DOWN NOW, GO TO POWER SUPPLY IN SHUT DOWN PROTECTION FLOW CHART. See Next Page

NOTE: THIS POWER SUPPLY CAN BE WORKED ON OUT OF THE SET AND DISCONNECTED. HOWEVER, TO DO THIS, APPLY AC TO THE DA CONNECTOR AND DEFEAT THE -12V LOSS DETECTION CIRCUIT BY SHORTING PIN 5 OR 6 TO PIN 4. PIN 4 IS GROUND.

AP-1X and AP-2X CHASSIS POWER SUPPLY IN SHUTDOWN PROTECTION FLOW CHART THIS SHOULD MEAN THAT Q903 GATE IS 0.6V AND PIN 8 OF IC901 IS LOW. REASON: PIN 3 OF IC904 IS HIGH BECAUSE PIN 1 IS HIGH

THERE ARE 9 THINGS THAT CAN MAKE PIN 1 OF IC904 HIGH. THEY ARE AS FOLLOWS: A) +17V EXCESSIVE CURRENT DETECTION. C) +26V EXCESSIVE CURRENT DETECTION E) 130V EXCESSIVE CURRENT DETECTION G) -12V LOSS OR SHORT DETECTION I) EXCESSIVE HIGH VOLTAGE DETECTION B) -14V EXCESSIVE CURRENT DETECTION D) -25V EXCESSIVE CURRENT DETECTION F) 130V TOO HIGH DETECTION H) C655 LEAKAGE DETECTION

THE GROUPS CAN BE ISOLATED BY DEFEATING THE FOLLOWING: Q905 WILL DEFEAT A & B Q906 WILL DEFEAT ALL THE REST, D ~ I Q910 WILL DEFEAT E, F, G, H & I PULLING THE P CONNECTOR WILL DEFEAT H & I WARNING: DEFEATING H & I MAY BE DANGEROUS, PLEASE USE CAUTION BEFORE ELIMINATING THESE SHUTDOWN CIRCUITS. REMOVE THE CRT PWBs FIRST.

COMPONENTS RELATED TO THE SHUT-DOWN CIRCUITS MENTIONED ABOVE A) Q905, R940 B) Q909, R942 C) Q906, R953 D) Q907, R954 E) Q904, R938 to Q910 F) ZD901 to Q910 G) R981, R982, D939 to Q910 H) VERTICAL OUTPUT IC, YOKES; RED, GREEN, & BLUE, C655, R665, R666 to Q910 I) HEATER PIN ON FLYBACK, R734, D702, ZD710 to Q910

AP-1X and AP-2X CHASSIS HORIZONTAL DEFLECTION CIRCUIT TEST CONDITION OF SET: OFF UNSOLDER B+ PIN ON FLYBACK

TURN SET BACK ON AND SEE IF THERE IS HORIZONTAL DRIVE AT THE COLLECTOR OF Q701 IF NO, GO TO 130V BUT NO HIGH VOLTAGE FLOW CHART ON PREVIOUS PAGE

TURN SET BACK OFF. CONNECT A DC POWER SUPPLY (MUST BE ABLE TO GO TO 40V DC) TO THE B+ PIN OF FLYBACK AND PUT THE GROUND OF DC POWER SUPPLY TO GROUND OF THE SET. (HOT GROUND IF APPLICABLE)

CONNECT A SCOPE TO THE COLLECTOR OF Q777 (HORIZONTAL OUTPUT) AND TURN SET ON. NOTE: Q777 SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN CHECKED AND REPLACED IF NECESSARY. SLOWLY RAISE THE EXTERNAL DC POWER SUPPLY, WHILE OBSERVING THE COLLECTOR WAVE FORM ON THE SCOPE. A CLEAN, POSITIVE GOING, HORIZONTAL WAVE FORM SHOULD BE OBSERVED. IF WAVE FORM IS NOT CORRECT, CONTINUE.

Suspect a load on the secondary scan derived voltage outputs. Its possible to substitute these voltages. Use CAUTION when substituting these voltages. Positive voltages go on the cathodes of the scan derived rectifiers and Negative voltages go on the cathodes of the scan derived rectifiers . Disconnect the positive 25V and the +25P Pins of the flyback transformer.

SUSPECT THE FLYBACK, Q777, C717, C721, L703, C722, D706, D707, C719, C747, T703
