The last few weeks we have been discussing ways that we can help save the earth. We have learned how to be green by recycling, picking up garbage and using less water. Its also our ob to protect the animals that share the earth with us. An endangered animal is an animal that is at risk of disappearing from the earth and needs our protection to survive. A habitat is a special place where animals live. 'ust like you have a home or place to live, so do animals. 0fter page 8- (acaws are beautifully colored birds that belong to the parrot family. They live in &entral and )outh American rain forests 2show students on the world map3. (acaws are intelligent, social birds. They are becoming endangered because some people trap them to keep them for pets and because their habitats in the rainforests are disappearing. 0fter page 4- *iant pandas are the rarest member of the bear family. They live mainly in bamboo forests high in the mountains of western china 2show students on the world map3. *iant pandas eat up to +, pounds of bamboo every day. -oads and railroads are destroying their bamboo forest, causing them to become endangered because they are running out of food. 0fter page 12- Tigers are native to Asia 2show students on the world map3. The main reason that they are endangered is from illegal hunting for their furs. All of these acts take away natural habitats from the species that live there. What do you think happens to the animals if their habitats are disappearing" $es, animals are forced to leave their

natural habitats and may not be able to find a new home that is suitable to their basic needs and they begin to disappear. Discuss ways that students can help endangered animals. The good news is that we can all take steps to help endangered animals. $ou can help by6 7earning more about endangered animals. 8isiting a wildlife refuge. 9roviding a habitat for wildlife by planting native plants. 4ative plants provide food and shelter for native wildlife. -ecycle and buy recycled products. We are going to play a game called Endangered Animals. In order to play the game I need everyone to follow the directions. In a minute we are going to move to the green carpet. I need all of you to sit in your assigned spots. !uring the game you must stay sitting on your pockets. The only time you may get up is if it is your turn to play a card. If you cannot follow the directions you will be asked to go back to your seat and wont be able to participate. We are going to begin with land that is full of animals that are healthy and safe. This is a make believe place, but while we are playing you will see that what happens in the game, happens in real life. 6ave everyone move to the green carpet and begin playing the game. Throughout the game chec+ for understanding by as+ing ,uestions. To play the game each of you will draw a card. $ou will read the card to the class and follow the directions given. I will start to show you how it works% 0fter the game, as+ students what strategies they would use to help the animals that have become endangered. ith each answer given add animals bac+ to the carpet to show that we can protect and save the animals. Animals have become endangered during our game.
