Public Advocate Letitia James Applauds Ambitious Vision Zero Action Plan
(New York, NY) Today, New York City Public Advocate Letitia James praised Mayor Bill de Blasios proposal to drastically reduce traffic-related fatalities citywide. She released the following statement: The Vision Zero Action Plan would expand slow zones as well as increase the number of speed and red light enforcement cameras. In addition, the administration plans to develop borough-specific traffic plans that take into consideration each communitys unique structure. The loss of innocent lives in vehicular incidents particularly due to speeding has already affected too many New Yorkers. Today, one in four New Yorkers who are killed in traffic are killed by a speeding driver I stand with Mayor de Blasio in saying no more. I strongly believe that New York City should dictate the traffic safety policies affect our streets, and I join many voices in lobbying Albany to give us greater control over such matters of community safety.
