Base On My Understanding
These councillors form the Council in local government. They are the ones who make
policies and important decisions for the local government. Their decisions and policies are
implemented by local government officers. Councillors are appointed from among local
citizens to sit in the Council. They are like ministers in our state government, except they are
not called ministers, not elected and not paid any salaries. They are paid only allowances.
The roles and responsibility of councillors can be dividing by four:
1) As a presenter and spokesman for the Local Authority
-It means the council as a representative of the public to serve the will of the public
respondent or feedback from people on the services supplied by local authority. To
put it simply, a council member as a mediator.
2) Develop Policies
- As a member of the council, it should be wise government policies. as to avoid
local authority policies conflict with government policy. This case because the
policy made by the local authority and the requirements associated with
government policy objectives.
3) Review the progress of the administrative management of local authorities
(I) discuss and approve the budget.
(Ii) Recruit new staff or adding new positions in line with Government policy.
(Iii) The effectiveness of the project, extension or postponement of projects that are
not suitable
(Iv) provision incurred by priority.
4) Make and adopt By-Laws.
- The purpose of the by-laws made is to avoid problems such as laws regarding
advertising, parking and others. as a member of the council, his job is to make and
pass laws so that they could form the basis and guideline for the management of
the problem solving.
