Operating System Installation: EECP 2291

There are four main types of operating system installations: attended, unattended, upgrade, and multiboot. Attended installations require user input during the process, while unattended uses preconfigured files to automate installation remotely or locally. Upgrade installations replace an existing OS with a newer version while keeping user files. Multiboot systems allow selecting between multiple installed operating systems at startup. Hard disks use partitions to logically divide storage, with critical partitions including the active, system, and boot partitions housing files needed for startup.
