An exercise document contains two questions about grain size and alloy composition. The first question asks about the approximate number of grains per square inch for an ASTM grain size of 6 at magnifications of 100x and without magnification. The second question provides the densities of aluminum, lithium, and a desired aircraft skin material, and asks to compute the weight percentage of lithium required for the skin material composition.

Exercise 15 Oct 2014
1. For an ASTM grain size of 6, approximately how many grains would
there be per square inch at: (a) A magnification of 100 x. (b) Without any magnification.
2. Aluminium-lithium alloys have been developed by the aircraft industry to reduce the weight and improve the performance of its aircraft. A commercial aircraft skin material having a density of 2.47 g/cm 3 is desired. Compute the concentration of Li (in wt%) that is required. (Density of aluminium and lithium are 2.70 g/cm 3 and 0.53 g/cm 3 , respectively)
