Independent Novel Study Project Outline
Choose one of the following ideas as your personal response to a fiction novel you choose
from the Resource Centre. This novel cannot be a book you have previously read and you
must verify your book choice with your teacher. We will have time to read the novel of
choice in class, please ensure you have your book at school every day.
A written attachment outlining a brief summary of the novel should accompany your project
due on Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Remember that you must get approval from your
teacher as to the type of project you will be completing.
1.

3.
Create a board game based on the novel. You must include the game board, the
rules and the trivia questions (question/answer) and any other materials needed to
play the game (i.e. playing pieces, dice, etc.). The materials should be stored in a
"game box" - e.g. a shoebox, a covered/modified game box, etc. The board game
should be visually pleasing and the content should directly relate to the storyline of
the novel.
4.
Make a story box. Use a shoebox to collect 10 items that relate to the plot,
characters, setting, or themes of the novel. These can be actual small items,
pictures, symbols, or diagrams that will create curiosity which might motivate
others to read the book. An itemized list of materials should be included in the
box, with items clearly labeled/numbered/explained.
5.
Make an illustrated sequential time chart of the ten (10) most important events in
the story. Each section should contain an illustration and description of a main
event. These events should be ones that stood out for you as being interesting,
amusing, etc.
6.
Create a comic book illustrating specific scenes from the novel. Include speech
and/or thought balloons. Clear distinctions between frames/strips should be
present.
7.
Create a novel pizza. Use a medium-sized pizza box and place in it a 12-inch
circle, cut into triangular pizza slices. On each pizza slice, draw a picture of a
scene from the story with a brief explanation.
