Chapter 5 Jigsaw Activity

Activity One:
Each team will be assigned one of the following problems and will work together to solve it. Each
team member will also prepare to teach the skill they learned to their new group in activity two.

Groups 1 and 4 Find the circumcenter of a triangle using coordinate geometry. Show all
equations and formulas.

Groups 2 and 5 Find the centroid of a triangle using coordinate geometry. Show all equations
and formulas.

Groups 3 and 6 Find the orthocenter of a triangle using coordinate geometry. Show all
equations and formulas.

Activity Two:
Meet with your new team. Find the circumcenter, median, and orthocenter of the new problem.
Each member should lead the discussion on the topic he/she studied in activity one. Every team
member will work on the same problem.

Circumcenter Teams Group 1 and 4

Given a triangle with vertices at (-3, 6), (3, -6), and (7, -2), find the circumcenter using
coordinate geometry and algebra. Show all equations and formulas.
Assign different roles to each team member to allow for successful teamwork.
Remember: The circumcenter is the point of concurrency of the perpendicular bisectors of a triangle.

Centroid Teams Group 2 and 5

Given a triangle with vertices at (-3, 6), (3, -6), and (7, -2), find the centroid using coordinate
geometry and algebra. Show all equations and formulas.
Assign different roles to each team member to allow for successful teamwork.
Remember: The centroid is the point of concurrency of the medians of a triangle.

Orthocenter Teams Group 3 and 6

Given a triangle with vertices at (-3, 6), (3, -6), and (7, -2), find the orthocenter using
coordinate geometry and algebra. Show all equations and formulas.
Assign different roles to each team member to allow for successful teamwork.
Remember: The orthocenter is the point of concurrency of the altitudes of a triangle.

Activity Two:
Each team member is responsible for teaching the material they learned in activity one to help
solve the following problem.
Using coordinate geometry and algebra, find the coordinates of the circumcenter, centroid, and
orthocenter of triangle ABC with vertices at A (-8, 0), B (0, -2), and C (6, 4). You must show
your work including equations to get credit for the answer.

Circumcenter: _________
Centroid: _____________
Orthocenter: __________
