Adventures in Digital Storytelling with youth in South Africa
July 30 - August 10 (12 days)
Cape Town, South Africa (Family) $2,875 adult, $2,175 teen (w/adult) (includes workshop, hotel, in-country travel) Join us for our inaugural twelve day workshop in the informal settlement of Wallacedene in Kraaifontein outside of Cape Town. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to experience the colorful world of the Xhosa community of South Africa. Cape Town and its surroundings offer magnificent diversity of landscape from mountains lush gardens, wine country and sandy beaches. $2,875 adult, $2,175 teen (w/adult) (includes workshop, hotel, in-country travel) A Cross Cultural Collaboration This is a fantastic opportunity to build relationships with the youth of Capetown, while learning from and with them. From basic digital image capture to advanced techniques for managing digital work flow whatever their skill level, participants will be challenged to take their work to the next level. Our creative collaboration with the students will culminate in a presentation/exhibit at the Hector Peterson School where our students have been working with Bridges mentors for months in preparation for this workshop. Bring Your Family Our workshop is designed for families with youth from 10 to 18. This is a unique opportunity for teen-agers to meet and work with their South African counterparts. As the most technically adept members of our workshop, the teens will play a key role in helping with the technical aspects of digital storytelling. Some of the South African students will have visited Seattle, WA for a cross cultural exchange, so they will look forward to meeting teens from the US during this workshop. About Bridges BRIDGES is a nonprofit organization founded by humanitarian photographer Phil Borges to help empower children around the world to tell their own stories. Bridges is dedicated to engaging students worldwide in direct, interactive learning and storytelling to build cross-cultural understanding. Those who attend our international digital storytelling workshops serve a vital purpose in helping to sustain our program. At our international sites, participants first learn the skills of digital storytelling and then share their newfound skills with local schoolchildrean and teachers and help them create their own stories.
