The students have been working on their number skills.

They can count to 25 (with some prompting)
They know various Australian animals
During the week they attended an Australian animal incursion where they saw a
koala, dingo, lizard and 2 snakes

To enable students to create an understanding of different Australian animals.
To enable students to count to 14 with the aid of the book One Woolly Wombat
Learning objectives: On completion of
Evaluation:
By the end of the lesson students should be

able to name some different Australian animals
They should also have a complete decorated
Australian animal mask.
They should be able to count to 14, even if its
with help.
In order to evaluate and monitor student

learning I will ask a variety of basic
questions regarding the book One
Woolly Wombat, this allows me to
monitor which students have learnt from
the reading of the book and which ones
might need more help with the making
of the mask.

8 different Australian animals mask designs, 3 copies of each which leaves 4 spare.
A range of craft activities including sequins, wind up crayons, pipecleaners, pom
poms, collage pictures, tape, glue, scissors to cut out the masks.
Have the eyes already cut out of the mask
The students will need to sit on the mat in order to listen to the book and the tables set up
in small groups for the masks to be done.
Catering for diversity

Some students may not be able to cut out the difficult parts of the mask, I can help if necessary

Learning Experiences:
1. Introduction:

Each student to sit on the mat behind the magic line.

Call to attention: Hands on heads, hands on shoulders, hands in laps.
Get students to count to 20
Ask students what Australian animals they remember from the incursion
Remember hands up and no calling out
Introduce One Woolly Wombat
2. Sequence of learning experiences: (What will you do to help the

students achieve the learning objectives? What tasks and activities will the
students be involved in to help achieve the learning objectives?)
- First read One Woolly Wombat
- Use animated voice, make sure to change pitch
- Ask students a question regarding page about the Dingoes
- Can dingoes play with yoyos? no!
- Finish book
- Ask students if anyone remembers any different Australian animals from
the book
- Hands up and no calling out
- Pick 3-4 students
- Today were going to do a special activitiy
- Were going to make Australian animal masks
- You can use lots of different craft items to do this
- Then well stick a popstick to them so you can use them!
- Start mask activity, oversee students progress and engage in conversation
regarding animals
Have you ever been to the bush? have you seen these animals before?
whats your favourite Australian animal?

- Can anyone tell me some different Australian animals they learnt about
today?
- How many Australian animals were in the book?
Lesson Evaluation:
(Reflect on the lesson. What worked? What did not work? What would you change? Why?)
I think the lesson went really well. I could have extended the mat session a little longer
than what I did. The masks worked really well with the students, they decorated their
masks and cut them out with very little help. Next time I would lengthen the amount of
time on the mat, but not too much longer as students get restless and no longer pay
attention. All in all I think it went well.
