Three black males committed an armed robbery and fled on foot. During the investigation into the robbery, police secured a residence for a search warrant. An officer stationed in the rear heard noises on the roof and saw a male, later identified as 16-year-old Aaron Sims. When the officer ordered Sims to stop, Sims ignored the commands. The officer then fired two shots missing Sims, who re-entered the residence. Sims and others then exited the front of the residence. Sims was charged with aggravated assault, robbery, criminal conspiracy and related charges for his involvement in the armed robbery.

PHILADELPHIA POLICE OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING
15XX W. Lehigh Avenue Please note that the following information is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues. PHILADELPHIA-On Monday, September 14, 2015, at approximately 2:00 am, a robbery point of gun occurred at 16XX W. Norris Street, committed by three (3) black males, who fled the area on foot. The complainants were transported to Central Detective Division and interviewed. During the investigation three (3) suspects were developed and 15XX W. Lehigh was secured for a search and seizure warrant in order to search for the firearm and additional suspect(s) /evidence. A 22nd District officer was positioned on the west side rear of the residence and another officer was positioned in front. At approximately 5:50 am, Officer #1 heard noises emanating from the rear second story rooftop and observed a male, who was later walking in his direction, on the roof. At that point, the officer ordered him to stop, but the male ignored his verbal commands. As a result, the officer discharged his firearm two (2) times, missing the male. The male re-entered the residence and voluntarily exited the front door along with several other occupants, including children. The officer identified the male and he was transported to Central Detective Division for investigation. Search and Seizure warrant was obtained and executed; however, a firearm was not recovered. There were no reported injuries as a result of this Police Firearm Discharge. Suspect: Aaron Sims, 16-year-old male from 27XX Hicks Street Charges: Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Criminal Conspiracy and related charges (Juvenile charged as an adult). **Please note that the above information is preliminary as it is from the early stages of the investigation; therefore, the information is subject to change as the investigation continues. ** ###
