CONTENT SEQUENCE:
Opening/Anticipatory Set: Attendance will be taken at the beginning of class before the students go
down the small gym. We will go over the lesson for the day and answer any questions before the start
of the warm up.
Introductory Warm-up/Fitness Development segment: The warm up consists of two laps around
the gym and then the students get into five lines with five people in each line. They then complete a
dynamic warm-up stretching and warming up their muscles to do fitness and prevent injury. The
fitness is called fitness relay. Students stay in their lines and the first person sprints down to the end
and starts the first exercise on the sign. The next person sprints down and high fives the person and
change places the other goes back and so on. Each person follows the list and performs a different
exercise each time they go down. The object is to challenge themselves to see how many times they
get through the exercises.
Lesson Focus/Game segment: Sideline Basketball.
The groups will be split in half and will line up along the sidelines. They will number themselves 113 on each side. A review of the basic rules will be done first with all students gathered around. I will
review traveling, double dribble, and examples on how to be successful during the game. The score
board will be used to keep score. The teacher will call out five numbers and students from each side
will come out and play. They may use their sideline to pass the ball but the sideline cannot shoot. The
games will last approximately 2-3 minutes each. At the end of the lesson I will review and go over a
short Q&A with the students before heading back to the locker room.

Teaching Cues:
Scoring: 2 points per basketball inside three point line. 3 points for outside the three point line.
Sideline can only be used to pass the ball and cannot shoot the ball.
Dribbling: Keep ball waist level and use fingertips to dribble
Shooting: Look for square on backboard and aim for inside the square on lay ups.
Passing: utilize bounce and chest pass. Turn fingertips out and step with dominant when passing.
Rule Modifications: Half-court game can be used if students are struggling to get up and down the
court.
Feedback Statements: (Students Name) great sprint across, and way to get those arms up and feet
off the ground with those jumping jacks! Its important to call out as many students and praise them
during the fitness segment. (Students Name) way to use the bounce pass to get around the
defender! Good shooting technique, next time try aiming for the square on the backboard
Closure/Lesson Summary: We will review the different types of skills they learned during the unit.
It will be the last day of basketball before moving into the next unit.
Lesson Extension: Students will talk about how they can play outside of class with what they learned.
Most students are aware of their skill in basketball but some may have found they like the sport and
we will talk about ways they can play outside of class in a competitive or non-competitive setting.
