Writing3015aimstopreparestudentsforonthejobwritinginbusinessandtechnicalprofessions.Wewillpracticewritingavarietyofprofessionaldocumentssuchas
resumes,letters,memos,proposals,andreports.Twokeyassumptionsbehindthecoursearethefollowing:

*Writing(aswellasspeaking)isrhetorical:Effectivecommunicatorsconsidertheiraudiencesandtheirpurposesastheyplan,draft,andrevisetheir
communications.

*Workplaceaudiencesareverydifferentfromacademiconesinhowtheyread(orlisten)andrespondtocommunications.

TheobjectivesofProfessionalWritingareforeverystudenttobeableto:

Analyzeawritingtaskanditsrhetoricalcontext,includingthepurposeofthecommunication,itsaudience,itsuses,anditsconstraints.
Studythebasicfeaturesofprofessionalwritinggenresandlearnhowtomodifythesefeaturesinresponsetoaudienceandsituation.
Writeusable,persuasive,clear,accurate,andreadabledocuments.
Developaprofessionalstyleofworkinginteamsandofmanagingteamprojects.
