    This will be an introduction lesson to assess their knowledge on the topic area.
    Syllabus Outcome(s):
    MAe-15MG manipulates, sorts and describes
    representations of two-dimensional shapes, including
    circles, triangles, squares, and rectangles, using
    everyday language.

    Mental warm up: Before and after


    1-20 number
    Ss sit on floor each have a card with a number on it.
    cards
    T ask 1 S to stand up
    S says their number out loud e.g. 9
    Ss The S with the number before this number has to stand
    up and say their number out loud. Then the S with the
    number after this number has to stand up and say their
    number. Then stand in order and call out the numbers in
    order e.g. 8,9,10.
    T Point out that 8 is the smallest number and 10 is the
    largest number.

    Discussion about 2D shapes at home


    (homework challenge was to find the shapes at home)
    Ss put their hand up and name all the different 2D shapes
    at home e.g. their bedroom window is a rectangle.

    T show pp slid with all the different shapes on it

    Ss put their hand up and tell you a shape and point to it

    T explain that a 2D shape is a closed shape (draw a circle
    - Flip
    then an open circle) if it is not closed it is not a shape

    Activity:
    T each table has a different shape on it
    Step 1: glue in the title
    Step 2: have a look at the shape/feel it, look at the edges
    Step 3: Trace around the shape into your books
    T When you hear tambourine you have to freeze, stop
    what you are doing and put your hands on your head and
    listen for instructions to where your table is going next.
    T ask a S to repeat steps
    Ss go back to table, 1 table a time

    Think/pair/share:
    T Think about all the shapes you made
    - Tell the person next to you what shape is and the four
    different shapes we looked at today
    T look around the room and think about all the different
    shapes you can see
    Ss tell the person next to you what shapes you can see
    Ss put their hands up and say the shapes they can see in
    the classroom
    T tell students to go home and look for shapes I am
    going to ask you tomorrow about all the shapes we can see
    everywhere.
