Sparkle Word: Proactive. Active means "doing something." The prefix promeans "before." So if you are proactive, you are ready before something
happens. Think about winter cold season. A proactive person washes his hands
and takes vitamins; a reactive person gets sick and takes cold medicine. You
know it will be cold outside, so you wear a jacket and find your mitts. We will
be using this word lots this week. Number of the day song: The Count, #4.
Read the Book, Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons. Kids
can sing along once theyve heard the song. Encourage
subtraction throughout.
Explain the four activities to students:
1) Cut out the yellow tshirts and kids play the game on their
own first, adding buttons to 10, then taking away buttons to 0.
They can then partner up and play it again. Sponge: Count the
crayons on the paper and color the correct number, then read a
book quietly on the carpet.
2) Pete Puzzle: Pieces are cut; students put them in correct
order to create a picture then glue it to the cardstock and color.
3) Button book: Students count the buttons on each page (in
dice formation) then cut out or print the corresponding number
on the line at the bottom.
4) Guided Reading: Students will go through the book with me,
page by page, circling the number on each page and following
along with their finger, adding buttons and a face to each page.
Details to be added at the end. Books will be collected so they
can be read as a whole group at the end of the week.
