It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to the Sweetwater High School
Academies. Our program is one of the greatest in the district and the knowledge
and the skills students will acquire throughout their years in the program will
prepare them to be college and career ready.
In my nineteen years in the district, I have been fortunate enough to witness
many outstanding programs throughout our different schools, but our Academies
truly have all the components of an exceptional program. Teachers are wellprepared to instruct students and teach them the necessary skills they will need to
be successful in college and in the career they may choose. Teachers attend
workshops and conferences to make their teaching practices exceptional. The
program also offers students the hands-on experiences they may not get
anywhere else. The combination of instruction students receive on a daily basis
plus the skills they are learning make them extremely marketable for whatever
profession they may pursue.
I would like to thank you for your support of our programs and hope you will
continue to extend your assistance when needed. As a graduate of Sweetwater
High School, I am proud to be part of our Academies and will always do what I
can to help a program grow.
NOMAR
Conference
A group of Hispanic leaders
decided there was a need for a
group to address the issues of
employment and civil rights for
Hispanic Americans. The need
became NOMAR (National
Organization for Mexican
American Rights) and their
mission is to find solutions to
problems students may face while
obtaining employment and
education.
On September 1, Ms. Diaz, Ms.
Sphar and fifty Academy students
attended the NOMAR conference.
Elizabeth Menses, one of our
very own SUHI students, was
awarded a $250 NOMAR
scholarship at the conference.

Welding / Engineering
The Welding/Engineering
Academy is a fabrication or
sculptural process. Students learn
the fundamentals of how to join
materials, causing fusion, from
high temperature and metal joining
techniques.
Engineering class combines the
fields of science and math to solve
real world problems that improve
the world around us. What really
distinguishes engineers is their
ability to implement ideas in an
effective and practical approach.
In September the Welding &
Engineering Academy attended a
field trip to Training Resources
Limited (TRL), a professional
Maritime training facility in
engineering, firefighting, and
electrical and damage control.
