Proof of Excellence

Another round of applause to the skilled and competitive students of

Quezon Hill National High School for winning another gold in the Inter-School
Essay Competition which was held on December 5,2014 at Roxas National
High School. The competition was divided in different categories and had 11
participating schools. Our participants are Joel Dongcuan from class 9-D and
Gideon Davis Linggaban from class 4-B. There were three competitions, they
were essay writing, tongue twister and extemporaneous speaking, all
revolves around the theme Reading Offers Hope.
Our winning piece was written by Gideon Davis Linggaban entitled
Cocoons yet to be Hatched. The essay was tackling about how reading offers
hope and what can reading brings to our current world and situation. The
emphasis of the essay was change and was represented by a cocoon. The
writer had a perfect parallelism and used a lot of figures of speech specially
similes and metaphors. The center of the essay caught the judges stating
that anyone who reads undergoes certain evolutions or morphing just like a
cocoon hatching into a butterfly.
The only funny thing is the priceless expression of the writer when he
was called as the first place. He did not stand immediately ensuring that he
heard the right number because he cannot believe he won the first place.
The victory was an unexpected one, especially when you are intimidated by
your opponents. Anyway, all ends well with a priceless smile in our, new
experience in our life and glorious medal in our hands.
