    Dangerous Area of The Face

    It is the area of the skin in the face drained by


    anterior facial vein which is connected with the
    cavernous sinus

    The areas forming the triangle include:


    - Medial angle of the eyes
    -Dorsum and side of nose
    -Upper lip and medial part of cheek.

    Infection to this area may be


    transmitted to the cavernous sinus
    causing cavernous sinus thrombosis

    Area of frontal surface


    The veins present within this area are
    A. Supraorbital vein
    B. Supratrochlear vein

    These veins ultimately unite


    together at the medial angle of the
    eye forming the anterior facial
    vein.

    The anterior facial vein in this area are


    connected to the cavernous sinus through
    Superior ophthalmic vein
    Inferior ophthalmic vein

    Infection of the dangerous area of the


    face may be transmitted to the cavernous
    sinus through these veins.

    Manifestations:
    Pulsating exophthalmous (Affection of
    internal carotid artery)
    Internal squint (Irritation of abducent
    nerve)
    Ophthalmoplegia (complete nerve
    compression)
