Lois Lowry often deliberately creates suspense. Write out a sentence or short
passge that is suspenseful. Then explain why it creates a sense of curiousity
and concern in the reader.
I was standing in the dark in the middle of the woods, then I heard a rattle
from the bushes. I saw a white cloth from it, crawling. It seems its a ghost
and because of that I ran and ran away from the ghost. Probably it will
come back to haunt me again.

There is a famous quote from a man called Viktor Frankl:

circumstances
Who was Viktor Frankl? What circumstances did he endure? What was his
attitude in those circumstances?
Viktor Frankl was born in March 26, 1905 in Austria. He studied suicide and
depression. He also was the head of the Rothschild Hospital.
His hard time is that he lost all his family members (wife also) except for his
sister that leaved and go to Australia.
He then try to convince other prisoner to not suicide.

Personal reflection: What are the hardest circumstances you have ever had to
endure?
1 My grandfather died.
2 Taking blood in hospital.
BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE
Read Romans 15:5-6, Philippians 2:5-8, Ephesians 4:22-24 and 1 Peter 4:1-2. How
should our attitude be?
Our attitude should to follow Gods way and we should not sin again.
CHAPTER 17: All This Long Time
WHAT BECAME OF THEM?

For each of the main characters, summarise their fate by the end of the war:
The people of Copenhagen: The people of Copenhagen were freed from the Nazis.
Mama and Papa: Mama and Papa were freed also and they told the story about
Lises death to Annemarie.
Lise: Lise was dead because the military car hit her.
Annemarie: Annemarie was safe also and was told the story about the Rosens and
the others and the death of Lise.
Kirsti: Kirsti was more serious and was skinny.
The Rosen Family: The Rosen Family was safe from the Nazis.
Peter: Peter was dead because he was found out by the Nazis that he was the part
of the Danish Resistance.
Uncle Henrik: Uncle Henrik told the story about the handkerchief and the Rosens
and the others.
PERSONAL REFLECTION

What is something that you will always remember from studying Number the
Stars? Something that I will remember always is that bad things will always
ends.
Example: Judah was out of the exile from Babylonia, Nazis was defeated, and
WW1 and WW2 ended. And, of course, the coming of Christ, which He will
destroy all the bad people on earth and rise the good people to heaven.
How has your English improved through studying this text? I have learned
words at the time, (but I do forget it) and here it is:
Confessed: To be honest that you did something wrong.
Condescending: To show that you are smarter than other people.
Motionless: Cannot move at all.
Extinguished: To stop burning.
Gradually: A verse from Psalms.
What is something that you have learnt that you can apply to your life? I have
learnt that even in bad times, you must remember God.
Example: When the people go to uncle Henriks house, they read the bible.
