Justice has many sides, the victims, the accused, and the court but what separates them is

the truth, a lawyers duty and responsibility is with the courts as well as with the client. What is
required of him is that he exhibits candor, fairness, and good faith to the court3, while he must
also owe fidelity to the cause of his client and he shall be mindful of the trust and confidence
reposed in him1. In this case what how can the court and the client be reconciled if they are in
conflict?

Verily, lawyers are expected to maintain at all times a high standard of legal proficiency and of
morality -- which includes honesty, integrity and fair dealing. They must perform their four-fold
duty to society, the legal profession, the courts and their clients in accordance with the values
and norms of the legal profession, as embodied in the Code of Professional Responsibility4. The
responsibility of a lawyer is not only with his client, but with the courts as well and that in order
for it to be reconciled the lawyer must do what is right by the law. That his actions must coincide
to what the law dictates, in order for him to represent his client.

Confidentiality with the client is mandated only if it does not constitute a wrong and that
it is the duty of the lawyer in case he has received information that his client has, in the course
of the representation, perpetuated a fraud upon a person or tribunal, shall promptly call upon the
client to rectify the same and failing which he shall terminate the relationship with such client in
accordance with the rules of court5.

A lawyers duty is not to his client but to the administration of justice. To that end, his clients
success is wholly subordinate. His conduct ought to and must always be scrupulously observant
of the law and ethics.6. The fact that the lawyer acquired knowledge that would constitute a
wrong then it is his duty to inform the court.

Thus it is necessary that a lawyer must first be an agent of justice in order for it to be an
advocate of the client and an officer of the court.
