The Men's Ministry at a church is organizing its first annual Career Day event in March or April 2014. The event will feature panels of church members from different career fields who will introduce themselves and discuss their careers with youth attendees. Deacon Andre King is leading the project, which will involve identifying panelists, setting the agenda, providing food, promoting the event, and ensuring it runs smoothly. The goal is to expose youth to various successful career paths and skills required through interactive panel discussions. Status updates will be given to the Men's Ministry in meetings leading up to and following the event.

Project Summary Sheet
Project: Career Day
Project Lead: Deacon Andre King Event Date:
March-April timeframe
Background: 2014 marks the first of what we hope to be an annual event.
The Mens Ministry organizes a career day for the youth of the church. The exact date can vary, but the first one occurred in March. It should probably continue in the March-April timeframe, given the other activities on both the church and the men's ministry calendar. The goal is to introduce the youth to the many ways they can be successful and happy in the pursuit of a career. Adult members of the church volunteer to participate in a series of panels that are grouped in to themes. For example, the law enforcement panel might include judges, police and lawyers. After a brief introduction by the career day host, a facilitator or the panel, members of the Panel are given a set time to introduce themselves, describe their career and provide other information they believe will help the youth better understand the skills it takes to be successful in each panel member's career. Students are encouraged to ask questions. Depending on the number of panels, this event can last 6 hours or more. The project lead is challenged to find creative ways to reduce the time without reducing quality. Keeping panel discussions on schedule will be key. Kids will receive a light breakfast in the morning consisting of pastries, fruits, juices and water. The lunch consists of cold cut sandwiches, chips, fruit and drink and perhaps cookies. The project lead is responsible for setting the date, identifying panel members, organizing the agenda, providing food, publicizing the event and ensuring the event is well executed. While the lead has overall responsibility, you are encouraged to identify that you can delegate some of the work too. Project Lead reports progress in the meetings leading up to the event. At the conclusion of the event, the lead also reports the results at the next ministry meeting.

Project: Career Day agenda to the church bulletin prior to the event to spark interest. Organize the day and create an agenda for panel participation. Encourage parents to sign kids up in advance to establish a head count for planning meals and any handouts. Develop a grocery list if you plan to prepare breakfast and lunch. Develop a cost estimate for meals if you plan to have them catered, and coordinate with the treasurer to ensure funds are available. To aid potential panel members in preparing for their discussion/presentation, develop a list of topics/discussion points they can use to formulate what they intend to say. Identify a facilitator to introduce the panel, encourage student participation and keep the panel on a schedule Identify someone that will pick up the food and oversee meal prep, hand out. Identify someone that will assist with room setup in the morning and clean up at the end of the day. After the event, solicit feedback from attendees about ways to improve next year. Add missing tasks to this list to make it easier for next years project lead. Brief the ministry at the next meeting summarizing the event
