Previously Learned Skills: Be familiar with the
student that is not behaving properly will first receive concept of tossing a ball or bean bag
a warning and a reminder that the next time he or
she acts up he will have to sit out. If the student acts
up a second time, he will be asked to sit out. If a
student sits out twice over the course of the lesson, he
or she will be sent to the supervisor.

Instant Activity:
Hello class! Today we are going to start
class with a game called steal the bacon.
There is a soft ball that is in the middle of
the black top here. I will place everyone
into two teams that will be at opposite
ends of the black top. When I count to 3,
one person must grab the ball and bring
it back to their end of the black top where
they started before some else tags them.
Once someone has grabbed the ball
anyone is free to tag that person. If the
person is tagged before reaching their
end, they must give up the ball and
everyone must start over.
Transition Everyone will be allowed a
water break then told to meet at the white
line, where they were at the beginning of
class.
Set Induction:
Today we are going to continue the
underhand toss and use it in games that
we use the underhand throw in today. We
will first start will bowling on the black
top. Behind me there are cones set up for
three games of bowling. The point of the
game is to knock down all the cones with
the underhand roll that we learned on
Monday. It is important that you make
sure to use enough force to have the ball
go far enough to hit the cones and is in a
straight line so it can hit the cones.
Purpose:
This lesson focuses on the underhand
toss and the importance of accuracy
when using the underhand roll and or
toss.
Transition Students may have a water
break now then meet back at the white

Lesson Core - Task 1:

Hello 3rd grade! Today we are going to
continue the underhand roll and then
move on to the underhand toss for class.
We are going to finish the idea of the
underhand roll by playing a couple
games of bowling. There are three
different bowling pins set up so you will
be in three groups. The object of the
game is knock down all of the pins by
rolling the soft ball that you will use.
Demonstration Plan:
Teacher demonstration. I will
demonstrate the underhand roll with a
student on the other end will all of the
students reciting the COTS.
Questions to Check Understanding
What are the cues of the underhand toss?
What does one have to make sure of
when performing the underhand toss?
(A: controlling the ball)

Diagram Task 1

CA State Standard 1.8: Roll a

ball for accuracy towards a
target. Students will be rolling
a soft ball towards bowling
pins in order to knock all the
pins down.
Teaching Cues for Task 1:
Face the target
Step with opposite foot from
throwing hand
Tick- Arm goes back like a
grandfather clock
Tock- Arm swings forward and
release the ball to the ground

Lesson Core - Task 2:

Next we are going to transition into
underhand throwing. We practiced it a
little on Tuesday and I know you all
practiced it with Thoren also. We are
going to practice our underhand
throwing accuracy by throwing beanbags
in various hula-hoops. The goal is to get
the bean-bag in the hula hoop. The hulahoops that are further away count for
more points. The goal is to get as many
points as possible by the end of the

CA standard 2.4: Identify the

key elements for increasing
accuracy in rolling a ball or
throwing a ball. Students will
practice accuracy throwing a
ball/bag into hula-hoops for
accuracy.
Teaching Cues for Task 2:
Tick-step-tock but the ball does
not touch the ground.

Common Errors Task 1:

1. students having trouble
controlling the ball
2. students not accurately
rolling the ball

lesson.
Demonstration Plan:
Teacher demonstration- I will
demonstrate the underhand toss with a
bean-bag into a hula-hoop while the
class watches and recites the COTs.
Questions to Check Understanding
What is the goal of the lesson? (to get the
bean-bags into the hula hoops) Are the
farther hula-hoops more points? (yes)
Adaptations
The hula-hoops that are further away
will be more difficult for the students that
find underhand tossing easier. The closer
hula-hoops will be for the students that
find underhand tossing more difficult.

lesson, I will tell all the students to meet

at the beginning of class.

CLOSURE:
minute Review: I hope everyone had a fun
s
lesson today! So today we worked on
both our underhand roll and underhand
toss skills. Can someone tell me the cues
of both the roll and the toss? (answer:
tick-step-tock) What is the difference
between the underhand toss and the
underhand roll? (roll is on the ground
and the toss is in the air). Next week we
are going to introduce a different sport
and work on different skills. Have a great
weekend!
ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES:

a) Goal Orientation for each

task
1. Students might have trouble
controlling how far the bag is
through
2. Students might have trouble
with the accuracy of throwing
the bean bag into the hulahoop.
