Attention Parents...
What can you do to help?
Parents want to ensure the safety of their children just as
much as teachers do. Therefore, it is essential for
teachers to keep parents involved with the exploration
and learning that is going on in the classroom. With your
help, you can extend the ongoing learning of safety
procedures in the classroom to the home environment;
there are a few tips and tricks that help you along the
way:

Use the Internet with your child/children

Teach your child/children never to give out
personal information
Instruct your child/children never to plan a face-
to-face meeting with online acquaintances
Establish clear ground rules for Internet use with
your family
Tell your child/children not to respond if they
receive offensive or dangerous email, chat
requests, or other types of communication to tell
you when this occurs
Set limits for the length of time your child
spends online
Overall, the Internet has many positive outlets for

students to learn from and engage themselves in gaining
new knowledge; we still have to be aware of the
negatives that creep up on our students and childrens
path.
My goal has your childs teacher, is to be able

to increase student knowledge of Internet
safety, identifying dangers on the Internet,
build critical-thinking and decision-making
skills relating to computer usage, and help
students
protect
themselves
from
inappropriate behaviour online.
Our class is actively involved in using different
resources like APPS and websites that
encourage exploration of many curricular areas
students have a big interest in. Parents want to
investigate these APPS and websites: iTooch,
Splash Math, Times Table Galaxy, Dragon Box
Numbers, Geoboards, Inspiration Maps,
Question Builder, SimpleMind, Same Sound
Spellbound, and many, many other exciting
ones.

Calling all Grade 3
students, and parents!
Philosophy
Technology has become a common element in
childrens lives. School systems have
incorporated technology into their curriculum,
resulting teachers becoming more familiar and
confident with using such a resource.
In order for technology to fulfill it, promise as a
powerful contributed to learning, it must be
used to deepen childrens engagement in
meaningful and intellectually authentic
curriculum.
Technology is a tool, and as such it should be
selected because it is the best tool for the job.
As members of the school community, I want to
ensure the safety of your children, by closely
following the p olicies and procedures our school
and school board enforces. We follow the
mission; vision and values significantly, but still
ensure the experience possible for your childs
learning and wellbeing.
By promoting student achievement through
education, motivates a willing to learn, and
inclusion all around. Your children are a large
part of our school community that offers the
opportunity to be engaged and caring citizens of
the world.
Following the school boards policy closely, it
operates on setting values that reflect the
actions of individuals with the intention of
responsibility, innovation, engagement and
optimism.

Students remember the 5 SMART rules when using
the Internet:
S is for Safe: keep safe by being careful not to give
out personal information (ex. Your full name, email
address)
M is for Meet: meeting someone you only have been
in touch with online can be dangerous.
A is for Accepting: accepting emails, IM messages,
or opening files, pictures or texts from people you
dont know or trust can lead to problems.
R is for Reliable: information you find on the
Internet may not be true, or someone online may be
lying about whom they are. Make sure you check
the information before you believe it.
T is for Tell: tell your parent, adult or teacher if
someone makes you feel uncomfortable or worried,
or if you or someone is being bullied online.
