Melbourne Zoo is employing villagers

as guards to guard these endangered
crocodiles and to develop sustainable
livelihood options. They are also
establishing community managed
sanctuaries for crocodiles and fish. The
Melbourne zoo is also is starting a
head start program. The head start
program take juvenile crocodile eggs
and held in captivity before being
released at larger sizes so they can
survive. The Philippine Crocodile is
also being bred in captivity there have
been 50 held in captivity and released
since 2010. Usually when bred in
captivity they will be held until
appropriate size to survive and
withstand typhoons. Tagged for tracking
every crocodile that was held in
captivity was tagged for tracking do they
can see patterns in the wild and how
they move and also when.

Interesting Insights
The crocodile balances the ecosystem
of the area by consuming certain fish
and frogs and other species and the
croc is therefore maintaining the circle
of life and if the crocodile becomes
extinct there will be a change in the
ecosystem and overpopulation of
certain species which could lead to a
bad end result. Also the crocodiles
can enrich the waters with certain
nutrients and by killing certain
organisms. Also by consuming the
species they do they will also make
more species thrive.

Habitat loss and deforestation are big

reasons on why they are becoming
extinct. These animals are only found
in the Philippines. So if they are only
found in one place and we are ruining
that place with deforestation and
modernization. (critically endangered)
Estimated 250 left in the world
including captivity there are only 150200 left in the wild. 50 were released
into the wild after being labeled big
enough to survive in the wild. Habitat
destruction is big also because
deforestation and modernization is
happening in the Philippines and the
more we take away their habitat they
will become extinct very soon.

Practices such as dynamite fishing

kills crocs every year. This is when
people throw dynamite in the water
and gather all the fish it kills when it
explodes except it just doesnt kill
fish. It kills almost everything in that
ecosystem. Poaching is also big with
these because of their skin and their
teeth are valuable and people kill
them and sell that.
Fish, Aquatic invertebrates, Small
vertebrates, Large adults eat
antelope, and frogs are all apart of
their diet.
