This smaller Budget Summary table is formatted for Portrait-Orientation printing, rather than the main
Budget Worksheet's Landscape style. This table is intended to be copied and pasted into Word
documents, such as Proposals or Treatments. Simply select the entire table, choose "Edit/Copy," then
enter your Word document and choose "Edit/Paste Special." Choose "Paste Link: As Microsoft Excel
Worksheet Object." This will paste the table into your Word document, and will also reference back to the
IndieBudgetBuddy template, so that any changes will automatically update in Word.
Enter estimated length of finished project (minutes) 100 Typical = 90-110 mins
Enter your expected shooting ratio 8 :1 Typical = 7:1
Estimate the percentage of Daylight shooting 40.0%
Percentage of Tungsten shooting 60.0%
Each set of numbers will automatically update on the main IndieBudgetBuddy screen.

FAQ
Why does the Film Feet Calculator round some items up?
- Two reasons. 1 - The "Total Hours of Raw Footage" is rounded
up because film transfers are calculated NOT on the hours of
footage, but rather on how many hours it takes the telecine operator
to do the transfer, which includes time loading and unloading the
film reels. Rounding up helps cover this extra time to make sure you
have a bit of contingency on your transfer costs. 2 - The "Total
Reels" is rounded up because no negative cutter will charge you for
6.5893625431 reels. But, they MAY charge you for 6.6 reels, or
they may even round all the way up to 7. Again, this is simply to
cover your butt for any situation.
You forgot rental prices for tripods, a dolly, and a jib! You idiot!
- Not remotely. I own my own heavy-duty Bogen tripod. I own a
primitive PVC-pipe track dolly, and I own one of Promax's heavy-
duty Cobra Cranes. I recommend the same to everybody. Buy the
cheap stuff on your own. For $800, you can have all the camera
support equipment you could ever ask for. Also - most Grip trucks
will come equipped with a track dolly, and most of the HD camera
packages will also include very heavy-duty tripods..
You forgot rental on mics and an audio board! You
nincompoop!
- Again, not remotely. I own a shotgun mic, a sturdy boom pole, a
portable field mixer, and plenty of XLR cable. Again, buy your own!
$400 will buy all the basics, or tack on an extra grand for a nice
Lectrosonics wireless (a great addition to any sound kit.)
It's all nice and good, but I want to use the new Vision2 Kodak
film. Can I change that?
- Sure! Do whatever you want! This is your budget, so if you want
to use the Vision2 or EXR Black & White, just replace any of the
film stocks in Column A with your own, and change the
corresponding price in Column C.
Why so few jobs in the "Crew" list? What about Line Producer
and Focus Puller and Production Assistant?
- You want to pay your PA's? You're a nicer person than I am! No,
just kidding. Those aren't on there because most extremely low-
budget films won't have them. Most extremely low-budget
filmmakers probably don't even know what a Line Producer is!
IndieBudgetBuddy is designed to keep everything extremely simple,
so listing off every last crew position, most of which will never be
filled in a sub-$500,000 movie, is just useless clutter. If you want to
take the extra unlisted jobs into account, just pick one of the listed
crew positions with the same pricing as your Line Producer, and
make the quantity 2, or 3, or 12.
