but that is particular for SI engines which will enhance auto ignition..but for diesel engine it requires compression ratio for starting the ignition(but limited by Weight ,increase CR, increase weight) ..imagine this way.. 1) Diesel is injected into the cylinder in the form of a spray 2) The fuel droplets is vapoured due to compression ratio.( for fuel to vapour it take some time .this is called as ignition delay)( increasing CR increase pressure and temperature..so droplets change into vapour..ie tiny droplets vaporize faster where as big one takes more time) 3) Now fuel is injected and vapour is formed and tiny droplets start burning which will transfer heat and pressure to the big droplets to vaporize and help them start burning.. 4) This is actually what happens in a CI engine (for smooth burnin) For Diesel They have a Cetane number which defines the knocking..ie if cetane number is higher more vaporisation of fuel, so smooth burning Here in our question fuel is fixed. Ie. it is having a certain cetane number which defines knocking Now imagine Compression ratio is decreased 1)fuel is injected into the cylinder 2)but Here compression ratio is decreased so it will take more time to take to get even tiny droplets to vapor(Delay period is increased) 3)since delay period is increased more fuel droplets accumulate and as soon as temp and pressure increases more droplets try to burn at the same time and which obviously causes knocking
