PPDS For Process Industry

1) Process industry scheduling faces challenges around products with shelf lives, complex operational relationships, and constraints on resource connections. 2) PPDS can account for product maturation times, expiration dates, and optimize schedules considering overlap between operations and resource network constraints. 3) PPDS campaign planning and block planning functions allow optimizing schedules to minimize sequence-dependent setup costs while considering timing delivery impacts.

Planning and Scheduling Challenges for Process industry

Products with maturation time and limited shelf life Complex relationship between different operations Constraints regarding flow of product through plant based on physical abilities to connect resources Sequence dependent Setup and cleanout cost Tank or Storage Resource Constraint

Shelf Life Planning

In Process industry generally products have definite maturation time before products can be used for further processing. Products also have specific expiry date beyond which products cannot be used. PPDS heuristic is capable of taking care of these things

Phase level Scheduling

. Process industry will have more complex relationship between operation than startstart and end-start. Operations may have overlap for certain time duration. . PPDS Detail scheduling strategies and Optimizer can schedule order considering above constraint.

Resource Network Planning

Resource Network is new functionality available in SCM 7.0 which takes care of Constraints regarding flow of product through plant based on physical abilities to connect resources

Sequence dependent Setup and cleanout cost

In Process industry setup and clean out cost are dependent on the sequence in which orders are executed. Generally if orders of products with similar characteristics are grouped and executed sequentially setup and clean out cost will be minimized but this can have adverse impact on time delivery. In PPDS Campaign Planning and Block Planning functionalities can be used to optimize schedule based on different parameters like setup cost, delay cost.

Container Resource/Tank Planning

Storage constraint like maximum storage capacity is considered by PPDS Optimizer (SCM7.0) to generate finite schedule New alerts are available in SCM 7.0 for violation of storage capacity constraint . This enables exception based planning.
