Maths Formula Sheet

Factors and Multiples Whole Numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 . Whole numbers (i) 0, 1 Not prime and not composite (ii) Prime Numbers 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 (has 2 factors, 1 & itself) (iii) Composite Numbers 4, 6, 8, 9, 10 ( has more than 2 factors. E.g Factors of 4 (4, 1, 2) H.C.F (Highest Common Factor) L.C.M (Lowest Common Factor)

Factors and Multiples 12 = 2 * 6 (2 and 6 are factors of 12 2 * 6 = 12 ( 12 is a multiple of 6 & 2) Index Notation 73 = 7 * 7 * 7

Number 7 is the base number. Number 3 is the index number. The index shows the number of times a base is multiplied by itself. All the bases, (e.g 2, 3, 5, and 7) are prime numbers. H.C.F = 2 * 5 = 10 (To find the highest common factor, we take the factors that with the lowest index that is common to both numbers.) L.C.M = 23 * 3 * 52 * 7= 4200 (To find the lowest common multiple, we take the factors that is highest indexes that is common to both numbers, and also any other factors multiplied)

Prime Factorisation 120 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 3 * 5 = 23 * 3 * 5 350 = 2 * 5 * 5 * 7 = 2 * 52 * 7

Square and Square Root 42 = 16 and 16 = 4

A number whose square root is a whole number is called a perfect square. 17 = 4.12 (This is not a perfect square) 9 = 3 (This is a perfect square) A number whose cube root is a whole number is called a perfect cube. 8 = 2 (This is a perfect cube) 10 = 2.15 (This is a not a perfect cube)

Cube and Cube Root 43 = 64 and 64 = 4
