This document is lengthy; however, it contains Know Before You Go travel tips, How to Get Around in San Antonio, a daily itinerary, a little travel trivia, and an introduction to the places we will visit during our week in San Antonio. Please read pages 1-3 before Wednesday, June 27, and the rest is good reading material for the plane ride. Airline Rules/Regulations
The information below is for experienced travelers as well as for those who are traveling away from home for the first time. Traveling for work or pleasure is a little different than traveling with a group. All passengers 18 years and older MUST provide a valid government-approved photo ID at check in. A photo ID is not required for passengers under the age of 18; however, it is recommended that a student under the age of 18 have a school photo ID or a copy of their birth certificate available in case verification is requested. For group travel, passengers must arrive to the airport at least 2 hours before their scheduled departure time unless otherwise noted on their itinerary. When traveling with a group, it may take longer than normal to check in. Allow plenty of time to get to the airport, check-in, pass through security check points and get to the gate at least 15 minutes before departure. AIRPLANES DO NOT WAIT!!! Once in the boarding area, please check in with your Group Leader. The Group Leaders name is printed on your flight itinerary.

There are two types of airline tickets: paperless tickets (e-tickets) and paper tickets.
PAPERLESS TICKETS have been issued by: AIRTRAN, US AIRWAYS, and UNITED. If you are traveling on a paperless ticket and are 18 years of age or older, all you need is your valid government-issued photo ID to check in for your flight. For those under 18, your school ID is acceptable. At the airlines ticket counter, you will receive a boarding pass. PAPER TICKETS have been issued by Southwest Airlines. If you received paper airline tickets in the mail, please present the paper ticket along with your photo ID to the sky cap at the Southwest curbside check in or at the Southwest ticket counter inside the airport terminal. In exchange for the paper ticket, you will receive a boarding pass with your name printed on it. SOUTHWEST passengers have received either a round-trip packet of tickets or a one-way ticket. If you have a round-trip packet of tickets, please keep the tickets for your return flight home in a safe place. Those who received a one-way ticket will receive their return ticket on Tuesday, July 3, right before boarding the shuttle bus for the ride back to the airport. Anyone without a paper ticket to exchange for a boarding pass will need to re-purchase a ticket at their own expense. SOUTHWEST passengers - If you received a ticket in the mail with someone elses name on it, take that ticket along with your valid government-approved photo ID to curbside check in or to the Southwest ticket counter. Your name has been entered into the airline records as printed on your government photo ID your provided to me. Your ID will identify who you are and a boarding pass in your name will be issued. Please dont be alarmedthis is a SOUTHWEST policy. Please DO NOT WRITE on the physical ticket.

Flight Check-in:
Airtran, US Airways, and United DO NOT support online check in for group travel. Check in must take place at the airlines ticket counter. For Southwest passengersto reserve your boarding position, a member of the PA FBLA Travel Staff will check you in online. When you arrive to the airport, proceed to Southwests curbside check in or go inside to the Southwest Ticket Counter to complete the check in process and check your luggage. Your boarding pass will be stamped with your position number in the boarding line. Southwest has open seating. Once aboard the aircraft, you may sit in any open seat. 2012 NLC 22 June 2012

Checking bags: If your flight is not a direct flight, check your bags through to San Antonio to avoid
additional baggage fees. Each traveler must check his/her own bags and pay any baggage fees at that time. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Checked bags must not exceed weight and size limits as outlined on the Flight Itinerary that you received. Overweight and oversized bags will be charged according to the airlines baggage policies. Carry-on baggage is limited to one carry-on item and one personal item. The carry-on bag must be stowed under the seat in front of you or in an approved overhead bin. Garment bags are considered one of the allotted pieces. Personal items include handbags, umbrellas, walking sticks, coats, cameras, reading matter, infant food, briefcases, and laptop computers. TSA and its security partners conducted extensive explosives testing since August, 2006, and determined that liquids, aerosols and gels, in limited quantities, are safe to bring aboard an aircraft. The one bag limit per traveler limits the total amount each traveler may bring. Consolidating the bottles into one bag and Xraying them separately from the carry-on bag enables security officers to quickly clear the items. If you are unfamiliar with the Transportation Security Administrations (TSA) 3 -1 -1 liquids policy, please review the information below before packing your bags. 3-1-1 for carry-ons 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume); 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure.

Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience. 3-1-1- is for short trips. If in doubt, put your liquids in checked luggage. Liquids checked in luggage are not subject to the 3-1-1- rules. Also, small scissors and nail clippers MUST be packed in your checked luggage or they will be confiscated. All medications and valuables should be transported in your carry-on luggage. Baggage Tags
All PA FBLA passengers received two WHITE baggage tags. Complete the ID information and insert the business-size card in the card holder. Securely fasten a baggage tag to each one of your checked bags. If you only have one checked bag, you can fasten a baggage tag onto your carry-on bag. Baggage claim and group transfers will be more efficient with these easy-to-identify tags. The airlines also recommend that you put identification information on the inside of your luggage. DO NOT LOCK YOUR LUGGAGE. The TSA will screen all bags before they are loaded onto the aircraft. Screening means that your bags may be physically opened and randomly searched for harmful items.

Thriving: Third fastest-growing city in America and the seventh largest U.S. city. Popular City: More than 26 million people visit San Antonio each year. The city is centrally located between the east and west coasts. Venerable: One of the American Wests oldest cities settled in 1731 by sixteen Spanish families from the Canary Islands. San Antonios rich history surfaces in its architecture, neighborhoods, food, culture and traditions. The King William neighborhood is one of the oldest historical districts in Texas. Urban: Hundreds of hotels, restaurants, night spots and shops line the citys urban core including the magical River Walk below street level. With 300 days of sunshine a year, San Antonio is an ideal destination year round. Warm summers and mild winters are complemented by a very pleasant spring and fall. Average daily temperatures in June are in the mid to upper 90s++ with humidity. On average, July is the warmest month, and January is the coolest. The average annual precipitation for San Antonio is just 29.05 inches.

San Antonio's urban core is very compact and you can walk to dozens of restaurants, top sights both on street and along the River Walk.

Top Five Things to Do on the San Antonio River Walk

Eat & Be Merry Over fifty restaurants, bistros, cafes, and clubs -- most with quaint outdoor patios -- line the River Walk as it meanders its way through downtown San Antonio. There is everything from stellar Tex Mex to haute cuisine and locally-owned spots as well as popular international names like the Hard Rock Cafe. (See the restaurant guide in your welcome bag for a list of eateries.) Land & Art Scapes Few visitors venture beyond the downtown River Walk but it's well worth it. Explore the Museum Reach, north of downtown, and watch for the twelve art installations on the river banks. (Included in our PA FBLA travel package.) Stop along the way at the San Antonio Museum of Art and the Southwest School of Art, then the boat ride ends at the 125-year-old Pearl Brewery complex, now home to restaurants, an outdoor amphitheater, a Saturday farmers market, eclectic shops and the Culinary Institute of America -- San Antonio. If you go south from downtown, the south fork of the river meanders through the stately King William Historic District all the way to the Blue Star arts complex, an eclectic enclave of creative souls, unusual shops and galleries, public art scattered about, and a brew pub. Sunset Cruise Lots of folks take a tour of the River Walk aboard a river cruiser, but few know that you can take a sunset taxi ride from downtown, along the Museum Reach, to the Pearl Brewery. Only in the dark will you be able to appreciate the full impact of the art installations that line the banks, all of which use light in creative ways. They were created by some of the most interesting names in the art world. Museums, schools, residences and commercial buildings often are lit in startling and unusual ways. Secret Places To Shop Don't leave without a pink cowboy hat of course -- pick one up at any of the River Walk curio shops. Less obvious but also right on the River Walk: La Villita Historic Arts Village; The Pearl Brewery, San Antonio Museum of Art Store and Southwest School of Art Gallery Shop. For major mall goers, the Rivercenter Mall -- with over 60 stores --- hugs the banks of the River Walk lagoon. Run, Walk, Hike The River Walk is a long linear park, beautifully landscaped, with great sidewalks. The less congested places are perfect for serious exercising or romantic strolls. The River Walk is eight miles long. In a few years, it will be a 15-mile masterpiece that weaves the city's past and future together, starting north of the city at Brackenridge Park (San Antonio's Central Park) and traveling south all the way to the four Spanish colonial missions south of downtown.

Onboard History Lessons (included in our PA FBLA Travel Package) Learn about San Antonio's rich history aboard a San Antonio river cruiser. The boat captains take great pride in their knowledge of the city and its past, so it's a sublime way to learn more about San Antonio and its famous River Walk. Texas' Only Lock & Dam System (included in our PA FBLA Travel Package) As the river winds north from downtown along the Museum Reach, a lock and dam system, the only one in Texas, overcomes a 9-ft. rise in elevation. Take a river taxi and navigate right through the lock and dam or watch from a bridge overhead. People Watching The River Walk commercial district in downtown San Antonio teems with people from every corner of the globe. Most of the restaurants have outdoor patios which are great vantage points from which to watch passersby, but there are dozens and dozens of pocket parks and welcoming benches the River Walk is a public park.

Getting Around the City

MASS TRANSIT: San Antonio's bus system (VIA) has routes that cover over 1200 square
miles. Use Google Transit to plan your personal trip. One-Day passes cost $4 and can be purchased at the Alamo Plaza (across the street from the Alamo). One-Day passes must be purchased in advance of riding and are good for unlimited rides on all regular, express and streetcar service for the one day printed on the pass. The Day Pass will be activated the first time boarding the bus or streetcar. An alternative to purchasing a One-Day Pass is to use the VIA bus pay as you go system where you pay the fare at the time you board or exit the bus.

TAXI: Two to six people can ride the taxi for the price of one. Approximate fares, not including
tips, to the downtown business district from the airport range from $24 - $26; Northwest Area (near SeaWorld) $39-$41. San Antonio offers multiple taxi services. For a complete listing, go to www.visitsanantonio.com.

BICYCLE: San Antonio's bicycle culture is growing rapidly. As part of the international
bikeshare movement, the city has installed kiosks at convenient spots around the downtown urban core. Rent or share a bike and hop on the nearly 40 miles of urban bike trails to explore the city.

STREETCAR:

Downtown travel is a breeze on the streetcar, an open air, authentic reproduction of a rail streetcar which traveled the streets of San Antonio more than 50 years ago. Four streetcar routes stop at top sights like the Alamo, the Spanish Governor's Palace, La Villita, Sunset Station, the Southwest School of Art, the Institute of Texan Cultures, the King William Historic District and downtown shopping. The downtown streetcar station at Convention Plaza provides convenient access for travelers. Purchase a streetcar pass at the Visitor Center. When you get in town, pick up a streetcar brochure in your hotel lobby.

SIGHTSEER BUS: (Bus 7) runs daily between the city's favorite sites. You can see them all
for one price. Locations visited by the Sightseer Special include: River Walk Streetcar Station, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Alamo, San Antonio Museum of Art, Japanese Tea Garden, Brackenridge Park, San Antonio Zoo, Trinity University, University of the Incarnate Word, Witte Museum and San Antonio Botanical Garden.

RIVER TAXI: The River Taxi stops at 39 locations along the River Walk. Purchase tickets from
the operator onboard. Look for the river cruiser with the black and yellow checkered flags. Taxi service is available daily from 9 a.m. through 9 p.m.

Need Help? Ask an Amigo

While exploring downtown San Antonio, if you find yourself in need of directions or information; ask for help from an Ambassador Amigo. Ambassador Amigos play an important role in the District. These Amigos serve as goodwill ambassadors in assisting downtown's various users. Their high visibility positions them to be proactive in assisting downtown conventioneers, visitors, workers, residents, and downtowns various law enforcement officials. Equipped with two-way radios and local area knowledge, these uniformed Ambassadors are strategically situated throughout the District and in high-pedestrian traffic areas at key times of the day. They form a unique partnership with local authorities providing maximum assistance and safety throughout the District, thereby supporting overall crime prevention. The Ambassador Amigos are available to serve as safety escorts, they assist stranded motorists and pedestrians, and they are qualified to provide first aid assistance until professional help arrives. Additionally, the Ambassadors act as information guides for the public. They are in-theknow with regard to what's going on around downtown San Antonio. They are also available for directions to promotional events and downtown attractions.

They are easily spotted with their bright yellow shirts, straw hats and friendly smiles. They can assist with directions, first aid assistance, dining or activity suggestions and are "in-the-know." Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, or Splashtown, the VIA Metro buses can get you there. Sea World VIA Express Route #64.

Cost: $2.50 each way or purchase a One-Day Pass for $4 that can be used all day on any of the bus routes. Sea World is approximately an hour bus ride. (1/2 hour by car) Park Hours: 10:00 a.m. 9:00 p.m. Sunday-Friday; 9:00 a.m. 10:00 p.m. Saturday.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas VIA Express Route #94.

Bus stop Commerce and Alamo Streets. (About a block from the Hilton Palacio del Rio Hotel.) Cost: $2.50 each way or purchase a One-Day Pass for $4 that can be used on any of the bus routes for one day. Six Flags Fiesta Texas is about a 40 minute bus ride. (20 minutes by car) Park Hours: 10:30a-9:00p.

Splashtown VIA Express Route #21.

Bus stop Market and Alamo Streets. (On the corner right outside the Hilton Palacio del Rio Hotel. Cost: $2.50 each way or purchase a One-Day Pass for $4 that can be used on any of the bus routes for one day. Splashtown is about a 15 minute bus ridejust 3 minutes north of downtown San Antonio. Park Hours: Weekdays 11:00 a.m. 8:00 p.m.; Weekends 11:00 a.m. 9:00 p.m.

If you want to go shopping:

Rivercenter Mall (attached to the Marriott Rivercenter) is a few blocks from the Hilton
Palacio del Rio Hotel. Located on the River Walk, the mall houses about 100 stores, restaurants, and theaters including Macys, Brookstone, American Eagle Outfitters, Chicos, IMAX, Mortons Steakhouse, Fogo de Chao, and much more. Mall hours: 10:00 a.m. -9:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 12:00 6:00 p.m. Sunday. The Rivercenter Mall is divided into 3 levels: The Lower Level, the Second Level, and the Third Level.

The Lower Level there is a food court.

You will find Cinnabon, Chicken NOW, Sbarro, I-Hop Express, Bourbon Street Grill, Little Tokyo, WOK Chinese, Lucianos Express, Kabob-House, GW Cheese Steaks, Dairy Queen, Starbucks, and Tony Romasa Place for Ribs. Additional restaurants line the Rivercenter Lagoon.

The Rivercenter Lagoon located in front of the Rivercenter Mall is a well-designed place to find a
table, relax, read a book, or enjoy lunch while listening to the enchanting music of the Peruvian Andes Mountains. The music can be heard every dayall day long.

North Star Mall.home of the largest cowboy boots in the world standing 40 high and 20 long.

Their official name is "Giant Justins," and they were built in the late 1970s by Bob "Daddy-O" Wade after he had built a giant iguana for New York City's Hard Rock Cafe. They were moved to Texas in 1980, where their innards quickly became hangouts for homeless people and stoners. The boots have since been reinforced to protect unlawful entry. There are 5 anchor department stores under one roof to include: Dillards, Macys, Saks Fifth Avenue, JC Penney and Forever 21.) Take the VIA Bus Route #3. Ask the Concierge at the Hilton for directions to the bus stop. Cost: $1.10 each way. Mall Hours: 10 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 12:00p-6:00p Sunday. (30 minute by bus; 15-20 by car traffic pending)

Alamo Quarry Market

A true Texas landmark, now an inspired destination for shopping, dining

and entertainment was once home to Alamo Cement Plant that helped build Texas for more than 100 years. Alamo Quarry Market has maintained and integrated some of the original structures of the factory as Regal 16-plex Cinemas is constructed around the original smokestacks. These smokestacks are a main focal point of the center and have become an easily distinguishable landmark visible from the highway. You may have seen the smokestacks to your left on your way to downtown from the airport on Wednesday. Open since 1998, Alamo Quarry Market is a 580,000 square-foot; open-air complex boasting some of the finest shopping, dining and entertainment the city has to offer. With over a dozen restaurants including P.F. Chang's China Bistro, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, J. Alexander's, Canyon Cafe, California Pizza Kitchen, Joe's Crab Shack and Piatti Italian Ristorante, there is cuisine for every palate. And with more than 60 retail stores including Ann Taylor, Restoration Hardware, Banana Republic, GAP, Pottery Barn and unique specialty stores such as Lucchese Boot Co., 20 Nine Restaurant & Wine Bar and Club Humidor, Alamo Quarry Market is your landmark destination for shopping, dining and entertainment. The Alamo - The Alamo is one of the most well-known monuments in the state of Texas and has a very interesting history and battle associated with it. Dining Options If you are looking for places to eat, refer to the one-page Dining Guide provided in your sports sack that was given to you when you received your room keys. For the more adventurous, take a stroll along the River Walk. You will find over 50 restaurants that meet your budget and palate. Additionally, there are numerous restaurants at street level in and around the Rivercenter Mall area. It is highly recommended, though, that you plan where and when you will dine so reservations can be madeespecially with a large group. Many of the restaurants can be reached on street level as well as from the River Walk. If ordering pizza, be sure to check with the hotel concierge to make sure deliveries are allowed. Schilos (pronounced (SHE-LOWS), a German family-owned business on 424 East Commerce Street is a great place for breakfast and lunch. The prices are reasonable, the menu is limited, but the German traditions and good food from its original owners dating back to the early 1900s continues to be served. Welcome to San Antonio and the 2012 National Leadership Conference! Let the memories begin. . . .

Itinerary
Day 1 Wednesday, June 27 - travel day - casual attire
Flight Departures to San Antonio: 5:41 a.m. 3:32 p.m. 333 competitors, advisers, family members, and friends will board 24 different
flights from 9 separate cities leaving for San Antonio at various times throughout the day. For each flight, one person has been designated as the Group Leader. This person will be my main point of contact while traveling on June 27 and again on July 3 and will act as the spokesperson for the entire group in the event of flight delays and/or cancellations. When you arrive to the gate, please look for your group leader so you can check in with him/her. This persons name is on your flight itinerary and will most likely be wearing a navy blue polo jersey. All departure and arrival times on flight itineraries are local time. San Antonio is one hour behind Pennsylvania. Remember to set your watch to the local time when your plane lands. Ex. 9:00 a.m. EST will be 8:00 a.m. CST.

Flight Arrivals into San Antonio International Airport 9:57a and 8:35p
You will be greeted by a member of the PA FBLA Travel Staff and then escorted to Baggage Claim (staff members can easily be identified as they will be holding a PA FBLA sign, and will be wearing a navy blue polo jersey with Travel Staff logoed on the front. Claim your own luggage and then gather at the designated location to be determined by the PA FBLA Travel Staff member. If you ask a porter for assistance with your luggage, remember they are performing a service for you. The accepted practice is to tip the person. Airport Shuttle Buses (Regent Coach Lines) will be called up by the travel staff as soon as everyone has gathered in the designated area. Once all luggage has been loaded on the bus, sit back and relax for the short, 15-20 minute ride to the Hilton Palacio del Rio. The drivers gratuity has been pre-paid. If by chance you get separated from the group, call one of the FBLA travel staff members who will be at the airport. Cell numbers are listed on page 4. Arrival to the Hilton Palacio del Rio When the bus arrives to the Hilton, you will be greeted by one of our own PA FBLA travel staff member. Please stay on the bus until further instructions are provided regarding 1. Room key distribution and/or luggage storage instructions 2. Activities for the remainder of the day

After the welcome and instructions, please pick up your baggage and all your belongings from the bus and proceed as instructed. If you need help with your luggage and accept an offer from a porter, it is customary to tip that person. Below are a few details about the Hilton Palacio del Rio . . . Surrounded by Texas culture and attractions, the Hilton Palacio del Rio is located across from the San Antonio Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and adjacent to La Villita Village shops and galleries. Also, the Alamo Rivercenter Mall and Arnesan River Theatre all are within 2 blocks of the hotel. The Hilton Palacio del Rio hotel offers a contemporary, hacienda style setting right on the banks of the San Antonio River Walk. The 485 spacious, sophisticated, Spanish-style guest rooms have private balconies with spectacular views of the River Walk or city. Amenities include a 37-inch HDTV, high-speed internet access and connectivity center. The hotel has a modern fitness center, a rejuvenating whirlpool, and an outdoor pool. The Hilton Palacio del Rio offers various dining options one of which is alfresco dining at Ibiza Restaurant on the River Walk serving South Texas-inspired cuisine.

Hotel Check-in For your convenience, the PA FBLA staff will check you in to the hotel prior to your arrival and will have your room keys when your room is ready. Room keys WILL NOT be available at the front desk on June 27. You must pick up your room keys from Angie and Mary. The location will be announced when receiving instructions once you arrive to the hotel. Room keys will be distributed to the adviser or adult accompany students. We ask that all other individuals find a spot in the hotel lobby to wait until the adult picking up the room keys returns. Check in is not until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27. If your room is not ready when you arrive, the hotel has provided PA FBLA with a room to hold luggage until guest rooms are ready. You may text Angie or Mary later in the day to see if any of your rooms are ready. We will make every effort to get the room keys for at least one of the rooms for your school. This way, you will have access to your luggage and a place to relax.

The Hilton Palacio del Rio is a smoke-free facility. This includes guest rooms and public areas. Any infraction of this policy in a guest room will result in room restoration charges that will be passed on to the occupants in the room. Guest Room Incidental Charges Room fees and taxes are included in the PA FBLA travel package. If you wish to charge incidentals to your guest room, you must provide a credit card imprint at the front desk AFTER you receive your room assignment and key. On Tuesday evening, July 2, please review your room account and settle any outstanding balances. You can use the TV in your room to check your account and to check out of the hotel. Follow the on-screen directions. When the master account is reviewed, if any incidental charges show up for a particular room, an invoice will be sent to the individuals assigned to that room. Introductions and competitor roll call (this is a perfect time to meet the entire PA Delegation) Travel package overview for the remainder of the week Pep Rally Immediately following the meeting, the PA FBLA NLC group photo will be taken. The exact location of the photo shoot will be announced at the meeting. PLEASE WEAR YOUR PA FBLA NLC ORANGE JERSEY for the photo. With 333 folks, it may take a little time to get organized for the photo. Please be attentive and patient. The cost of the photo is included in the travel package. Photos will be mailed to the adviser/adult accompanying students to the NLC in July. Lunch at Fogo de Chao (first meal included in travel package). Casual attire is acceptable. Fogo de Chao is a 5-star restaurant. Beachwear, short shorts, jeans with holes, etc. are unacceptable attire. Lunch at Fogo de Chao will be an extraordinary experience for everyone, especially those who have never eaten a meal at a churrascaria. A churrascaria is an authentic Brazilian-American steakhouse. The menu operates under the service concept of continuous service. There are no traditional menus. You can sample the entire menu or just focus on your favorite items. The main entrees are slow-cooked over an open pit and served by roaming Gauchos (cowboys) table side. Each person will be provided with a disk that has a green and red side. When you want to be served, place the green side up on the table in front of you. When you want to rest, flip the disk to the red side. Vegetarians will also love the menu with a 50-60 item seasonal salad bar that features appetizers, soup, side dishes, and salads. Come hungry and enjoy the feast!!! Gonzales Convention Center faces the front of the Hilton Palacio del Rio. The west wing doors are normally locked when that part of the building is not being used. From the Hilton, the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) recommends walking along the right side of the convention center on Market Street and entering the building in the middle which is about a half block or a 7-minute walk. Plan accordingly. You can reach the Convention Center on street level or by the River Walk. Once you do a few trial runs, you will find the shortest and coolest way to get there. Midnight Curfew

Details for the Day:

Due to the location of our hotel in proximity to where the events of the conference are being held (Marriott Rivercenter, Marriott River Walk, Grand Hyatt, and the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center), I strongly recommend that once you are settled into your hotel room (or your luggage is safely secured in storage), take a trial run to see where these four venues are located, how much time it will take to get you from the Hilton Palacio del Rio and actually get seated in your competition room. ALWAYS give yourself plenty of time to allow for the unexpected. All three of the above hotels are only a few blocks from the Hilton and the Convention Center is across the street from the Hilton. Careful planning is important to being on time. Also at the hotel, allow for slow elevators, crowded hallways, and hotel lobby congestion. Again, plan accordingly.

Details for the Day:

Follow the official NLC Program for the schedule of events. Plan your day to take advantage of the many opportunities offered at the NLC. Support your fellow PA competitors in their events. Sitting in the audience and listening to performances is a great way to learn how to prepare for an event of this type. Immediately following the Regional Campaign Rallies and State Presidents Reports, Group 1 for dinner at the Casa Rio will be escorted by a member of our Travel Staff to the restaurant for an authentic Tex-Mex dinner. Depending on the time the Region Meeting is adjourned will determine if there is enough time to stop by the hotel and change clothes before dinner. Because there are 330 folks in our PA FBLA group, the Casa Rio split our dinner reservation into two smaller groups. Smaller groups can be served more efficiently and quicker. Refer to the Snapshot View Day 4 for your Group Seating assignment. Casa Rio Group 2 will meet in the Hilton Palacio del Rio hotel lobby at 8:15 p.m. and will be escorted to the Casa Rio for dinner. Casual attire is acceptable. Tex-Mex is a popular south western cuisine. So, while in Texas, we will do as the Texans do and experience an authentic Mexican dinner. Menu: Deluxe Mexican Dinner Guacamole Salad, Crisp Beef Taco, Tamale, Cheese Enchilada, Chili con Carne, Mexican Rice, Refried Beans, Tortillas, Iced Tea, Chips, Salsa and a Bunuelos for dessert. The final rounds of competition for performance events are scheduled throughout the day. Refer to the NLC Conference Program for a detailed schedule. Details for the Day:

Plan a full day of activities at the conference. When you are not competing, visit the exhibitors, stop by the campaign booths, sit in the audience of performance events, attend a workshop, or sit for an open event test. This evenings dinner will be held at the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum at 6:30p. The Buckhorn is on 318 E. Houston Street, only a few short blocks from the Hilton. We will depart on foot from the Hilton at 6:15p. If you are not in the lobby when it is time to leave, we will see you at the Buckhorn at 6:30p. Please dont be late. Seating in the Toepperwein Room will be by table assignments. Refer to the Snapshot View, Day 5 for your table. As always, the rule of thumb is to wear cool, light clothing and COMFORTABLE SHOES. Casual attire is appropriate for dinner. Shorts are acceptable. The Buckhorn Saloon is San Antonios oldest and most historic saloonits like walking into a restored piece of Texan history. You will have time to tour the animal halls, marvel at the Texas Ranger artifacts and explore a recreated Western Town. A professional photographer will take photos (for a small fee) throughout the evening at various locations throughout the Buckhorn Saloon and the Ranger Museum. Day 7 Tuesday, July 3 Travel Day Casual attire
On the night before departure, please pay any incidental expenses that may appear on your hotel bill. Advisers, it is important that you check your students rooms. Garbage should be in the trash cans. Please report any damage to the front desk. If your shuttle to the airport is not scheduled to leave until after checkout, you must still vacate your room by 12 noon. Luggage storage is available at the bell hop station. I will work with the hotel to secure a few rooms for late checkout for those who have a flight later in the day.

Airport Transfers July 3

Ground transportation from the hotel to the airport is scheduled to depart from the same entrance where the bus unloaded on Wednesday, June 27. Advisers, please be in the loading area with your students and luggage at least 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time. A member of the PA FBLA staff will be in the loading area throughout the entire transfer process and will announce which bus you are to board. PLEASE BE ON TIME. It is your responsibility to get your luggage to the bus; the driver will load it. Do not leave your luggage unattended. The drivers have instructions not to load unattended luggage. The buses CANNOT wait for those who arrive late. If you miss your bus it will be your responsibility to find transportation to the airport at your own expense. Advisers, please give your students a wake-up call in the morning to make sure they are on time. The drivers tip has been pre-paid. Flight Departures: 6:00 a.m. 3:55 p.m.

Specific instructions for each departure to the airport will be provided in the Snapshot View, Day 7. For Southwest passengers only each passenger must have an airline ticket to exchange for a boarding pass. If you have a round-trip ticket, your return flight tickets are now in your possession. When you get to San Antonio, put your return flight tickets in the safe. If you received a one-way ticket in the mail, a member of the Travel Staff will hand deliver your return flight tickets to you on Tuesday morning before boarding the shuttle bus. This paper ticket IS NOT your airline ticket or boarding pass. It is your official document that must be exchanged for your boarding pass. You MUST have a boarding pass in your hands BEFORE going through security. REMEMBER AIRPLANES DO NOT WAIT; SHUTTLES MUST LEAVE THE HOTEL ON TIME. If you miss your shuttle, you will be responsible for getting to the airport on time at your own expense.

Hotel Safety Tips

When checking into the hotel, make sure no strangers hear your name or room number. Dont show off money or jewels in the hotel lobby. Dont leave your room door open when carrying baggage into or out of the room or when using vending machines. While in your guest room, keep the door locked, using all locking devices provided. If your room has a connecting door, keep it locked at all times. Never admit anyone to your room without first checking their identity with the front desk. Do not admit hotel workers into your room unless you have positively identified who they are. Guard your room key access card. Dont leave your card in a visible location while you are in the hotel pool or dining room. Keep room key access cards away from your cell phones. The magnetic strip on the card has the tendency of deactivating when it comes in contact with a cell phone. If arriving at night, use the hotels main entrance. Dont hesitate to ask for a security escort to your room. Secure all valuables in a hotel safety deposit box. All students must be in their assigned room at curfew.
